What support mods for Smarty
What support mods for Smarty
As seen in my signature line, I have a Smarty. I usually run it on SW5 and keep all the settings on mild. I drive it relatively sane...... However, if want to turn it up, but I cant fork out $5000 for a new tranny. What is the bare minimum I need as far as tranny and fuel support? When I tow, it is only 5000lbs, and I turn the Smarty down regardless. I am not doing 4wd boosted launches or drag racing......other than against all my buddies in the Durmaxes
Would a TC and VB with a fuel pump be enough?

You really need to set yourself more on a horsepower goal.
The main concensus is transmission work. (T/C, valvebody, possibly billet internals, etc)
Fuel System. Research, research, research, you will find your answer quick.
Honestly doing those 2 things will pretty much get you where you want to be.
If you don't have gauges yet make that a priority.
I have the gauges already and air intake and exhaust. I would like to be around 500hp, but for now, I just want to be able to run my Smarty on the highest levels without hurting anything. I heard just a VB and TC would be enough as long as I don't tow on level 9 or thrash the truck. At the same time, I also hear that I need a FASS or something like that to meet the fuel requirements of the Smarty on higher levels. That is my basic question, with the Smarty being my ONLY power enhancement(no other controllers, turbo or injectors) what needs to be done to the tranny and fuel system?

I run my smarty on SW 9 with TM on 4 with only the mods in my sig, been running this setup for almost 6 months and i run the **** out of it. but have a 6-speed with stock clutch(no slipping yet). my FP will drop to 1 or 2 psi at WOT but the RP will hold and not drop off so 1 to 2 psi is just fine for me, the only thing holding my truck back is EGTs in a 1/4 mil pass i would see 1600 which is to hot for me
so i would say your major hold back is your auto might as well go full built now rather than later wish i did on my old truck

Yes, you will just run out of rail pressure, but you will not hurt anything. You may make more power on sw7 than sw9 with a stock lift pump.... maybe even with an aftermarket lift pump.
As far as the tranny, minimum, tq converter, valve body, billet input shaft.
