What sort of timing are we talking about?

Is there any advantage to doing the rokktech crank sensor versus getting a chip that has timing changes built in. Except for $ of course. Do they control the same type of timing

What sort of timing are we talking about. I am more familiar with gas engines where you can change the ignition timing and cam timing. Advancing the cam 4 degrees is totally different than advancing the ignition timing 4 degrees.

Is doing the crank sensor more like advancing the cam, where you are actually making the whole intake/exhaust events start sooner. This would definitly explain the claim of more lowend power, of course you will probably loose some top end power.

The other way to control timing would be changing when the injector fires in relation to TDC. This would be similar to changing the ignition timing of gas engine but instead of controling spark you are controling when the fuel is injected into the cylinder to initiate combustion

Do chips change when the injector fires or do they trick the sensors into thinking the whole cam is advanced?

I know this may sound confusing to some!! I have tried to ask as clear as I can on the computer. The biggest problem I find is accuratly trying to get a point across on the computer.

Moving the crankshaft sensor or tone wheel changes the static timing from when the injectors fire to the relationship of the piston coming to TDC. Adding timing moves the injection event earlier, retarding moves the event later so it's closer to of the piston's TDC.
Boxes can be different. The timing can be dynamic or static, depending on the programming.
Maybe Quad with Quadzilla will jump in and can explain how timing boxes perform their magic.
