Question What muffler should I buy for do it your self install....

Hello....well I would like my truck to have a little more sound and less restriction. I am very intrested in installing a stainless muffler on my trucks stock pipes. What muffler would you suggest? I have heard Areoturbine is good? Good quality and good sound are a must. No drone! Also I want to do the install myself and do not want to cut anything or use a torch. Will this be possible? Thanks...

You need the MBRP Stainless Muffler, best thing going in my opinion for your truck

You can find them here in the online store or often in our classifieds too!

Good luck with that.
The OEM muffler is crimped on, no way to get it off without cutting and heating.

I think your's is like mine meaning your muffler is offset. If so you can go with the mbrp replacement muffler from DPPI in Nashville, Tn. I just installed this on mine with the cat test pipe and man does it sound good. Just did it two days ago and I love it. As for cutting you will need to cut a slice in your muffler were it fits over the pipe and then drive a chisel or something in between them to open the factory crimp up so you can remove it. It is a little work but it is well worth it.

When I did my muffler I didn't bother trying to match the offsets from the stock muffler to the new one. Going to the straight thru muffler actually gave the tailpipe a better angle IMO.
I would plan on cutting the muffler off with a sawzall and replacing it with a new one that's about 8" longer overall than the overall length of the stock one. The problem will be in putting both pipes back on it and getting the tailpipe hanger rods in the hangers at the same time. It's going to take some work no matter how you do it unless you just go pay a muffler shop to do it.

any troubles with fit can be fixed cheap enough at the muff shop, few quick welds will make those pesky exhaust leaks go away and sound much better.

I like to have never got the stock muff off...Broke out Team Yellow and made quick work of it
The muff hangers were no problem...the tailpipe hanger nearly ended with the same fate

MBRP and offset pipe went in without a problem, only had to cut about 2" off the tailpipe

herrin, droan can be caused by the resonance of the pipe itself, expecially if your kity ran away. that long straight section under pass compartment may be the culprit. find yourself a bit of angle iron, about as long as the straight section of exhaust. get 4 or 5 worm clamps and clamp the angle iron ( 3/4 or 1 inch flats should be good ) on top of the pipe, point of the angle up with the two edges touching the pipe. clamp this down tight and see if it makes a difference. it like hitting a free standing wind chime versus one that you have your hand around. if that helps a little the other end might be a problem. gotta get the tip out from under the truck, out as far as you dare, bout even with outside edge of tire, keeps the sound from under the truck where it ends up gettin back inside.

I just removed the muffler, but left the kitty. I am very happy with the sound, and I don't have any drone. Is there any harm to be done by removing the kitty, how much actual power gain could there be? It is a straight through design. I realize there is a honeycomb inside, but is there anyone with hard numbers, as to what kinds of gains are to be had by removing the kitty.
Thanks,
John

Just installed a Flo Pro 5" this morning (actually had to have a shop do it, didn't fit worth a Edit. I got sent some wrong parts so I had em fab the 5"er to my stock 4" downpipe minus the cat. Thing sounds super healthy, but that sucker really drones at about 65-70 ...Edit! I might try to find some high temp rubber and wrap it around the pipe for a length under the cab. Hopefully that helps. Sounds Edit other than that though.
