What filter do i need????
Hey guys, I have an AEM cold air intake on the truck in my sig (2006 5.9CTD) and I have been contemplating replacing the filter with a better flowing filter. I have seen multiple post where people said that an S&B filter that will fit on the AEM tube will flow much better. I have even seen adds in magazines (Diesel Power Aug 2011 pg 139) that say that S&B makes "Filters for Competitor's Intakes" and they list AEM.
THE PROBLEM is that i can't find a filter for an AEM intake on S&B"s website and i have called twice and spoken with two different people and they tell me that they don't make filters for AEM intakes.
IF ANYBODY KNOWS WHICH S&B FILTER I NEED TO ORDER TO FIT ON MY AEM INTAKE PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
ALSO IF ANYBODY HAS A SUGGESTION OF ANOTHER FILTER THAT WOULD FIT ON MY AEM INTAKE AND MAKE IT FLOW BETTER PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
THANKS GUYS!!

Go measure the intake diameter, length x width of your current filter and then cross-reference the catalog for something comparable. That's what I did when I switched from S&B to AEM. I got tired of spending 18hrs cleaning and oiling an air filter every other month, and the AEM Dryflow solved that problem nicely. With the S&B, there was sometimes a very, very slight amount of fine powder on the inside of the top intake elbow, and the AEM doesn't display that concern at all.
Truth of the matter is, if you're properly cleaning and maintaining your filter, there isn't enough of an airflow difference between one aftermarket filter and another to make a difference. Filtration differences: ABSOLUTELY! But not enough airflow changes to do anything but drain your wallet.

The stock filter works the best and is good up to about 450hp. You gain nothing with an aftermarket filter except higher silica particle counts in your oil.
If you can't go stock I hope you can find something that works for you.

Thanks guys. I think I am gonna go back to stock and see if that seems to be better. It honestly feels more sluggish than it was when I had the stock set up in. And I may be crazy but I'm pretty sure the mpg has gone down considerably as well.
Here are some stock intake recommendations.
The stock intake is VERY hard to beat. I see some very very low IAT numbers that I just don't think are possible to beat with a aftermarket CAI. Cruising my temps are only 6-12° above ambient. Common EGT rise/drop vs IAT temp is 1.5° EGT change for each 1° change in IAT.
Here are my thoughts on what you should modify on your intake.
In the sub 450 rwhp range there isn't anything better than the stock setup, and with a few mods it can be a real performer.
Air Filter: Run the OEM 4” Pleat filter, PN 53034249AA
Airaid MIT: Better throttle response, quicker turbo spool, better sound
GDP Intake Horn: Better throttle response, quicker turbo spool, lower intake air temps.
Home Depot CAI: Cooler intake air, better flow at high boost
Be sure to leave the directional vanes in the lower 90* intake elbow, they don’t effect flow and Holset claims they help the turbo operate up to 30% more efficient.
All of these mods cost less than a standard CAI, and will out perform them. My IAT
s are 6-12* over ambient under normal cruise with those mods, where stock they were 10-20*.
I have a ~400 rwhp tune and my cam/turbo combo is moving a lot more air than stock and I can't even budge the filter minder with my current setup.

I am kinda looking for the same thing but I am getting sick and tired of oil my filter and wanted to go to a amsoil dry because thats what I had on my first kit but this intake I upgraded to a couple of years ago has a flange I.D. of 7" round and I can only find one that goes ip to 6" I.D. so any help or part#s or something would be appreciated. Thanks.
