What does a bigger turbo do & is there a HOLESET one for 2004.5?

I understand a bigger turbo will produce more boost - I am assuming this is under acceleration therefore more air = more fuel = more power and not simply at cruising speed. I am curious if there is any HOLESET turbos that are bigger since I have an engineering contact in the UK, maybe he can swing me a deal.

My goal would be to better the truck's towing capability and increase fuel economy. Maybe a bigger turbo is counter productive to increased fuel economy.

Any insight would be appreciated.

thanks

I know the bigger the turbo, usually the more rpm's it takes to spool it, so that may not be a good idea if you are towing with it. I just put a Industrial Injection Phat Shaft turbo on our one truck that is a little bigger than stock, but not by much. Being a little larger it takes more to spool it, but not much. It also decreased the EGT's by 200 degrees. The funny part is the main casting on the turbo says CAT!

If you jsut have a milage max chip you probably don't need a turbo. The stocker can support 450hp. I put a '04.5 turbo on my '03 and noticed a increase in performance. Aftermarket turbos have a larger exhaust housing which slows spoolup a bit and can lead to more smoke. You will notice the biggest difference when you are using full power. With my truck this is a very small amount of the time. Most of the time 10psi or less not over 35psi. A larger turbo takes more fuel to turn the turbine and compressor wheel but the exhaust housing is less restrictive. One fellow who tows says there is only 0.1 mpg benefit from a 62/65/13ss. That is while towing 21,000lbs. Not sure on empty mpg.

Makes sense, thanks for the information.

I agree, I do not use my truck for drag racing - I know some do / like acceleration but I will leave that to my wild pony (mustang)
