Westach Dual EGT/Boost Gauge

Has anyone had their Boost gauge start making a "hissing" sound at higher boost levels? We went camping this weekend and towing the camper up some hills I noticed my gauge starting to hiss every time the boost got above ~18 psi. On the way home it started doing it as low as 14 psi.

I have the Westach dual EGT/boost gauge and it's about 1.5 yrs old. Does this mean there's an internal leak in the gauge? Is it fixable, or should I just replace it?

Sounds like a leak to me...either the hose is leaking or the gauge internals - if the hose, you're in luck. If not, then replacing the guage is probably the answer. Give Westach a call and they might do something for you (warranty?). I had one 2 1/2 yrs and no problems and am going to be installing a new one (same as yours) in my '05 once I get a few spare hours..

I would check the hose fitment on the back of the gauge. Use a tie wrap for a clamp and see if it fixes the leak. If not contact Westach.

Mine started hissing as the hose was beginning to pull off the barbed fitting on the back of the gauge not too long after installation. Reinstalling the hose and securing it with 2 tie-wraps took care of it.

The Westach uses a bulb that lights the front of the gauge face unlike the IP that has backlighting. So there is a difference. Colored bulb covers are supplied to match the IP lighting color. After a day or so you'll get use to it. I think it's pretty cool looking myself.
