Weak Front Suspension?

I have an '06 3500 4X4 CTD. Anything I should know about the front suspension? Seems like it "bottoms out" a lot. I can go over a speed bump (slowly), and when I come off of it, the front bottoms out. When I go over some dips in the road, it bottoms out. I might have 60lbs of accessories on the front . . . shouldn't make a difference on a 3500. Thoughts?

Just saw another thread where there was a recall on front springs for the '05's . . . . did they fix this on the '06's?

Ive never had that problem, when stock. Not a 06 though, but dont think there is a big difference.

Does not look like you have a lift.

What makes you think it is bottoming out, noise, contact, ride?

I can feel it "hit" the frame or the stops. I don't have a lift . . . just stock 4X4.

I'll take it into the dealer, but what makes you think it is my steering? Everything seems to steer fine.

I know my truck is a few years older, but I think the 3rd gen. suspensions are pretty similar. I have wheeled the heck out of my truck, hitting ruts hard enough to get both fronts off the ground and haven't had bottoming out problems. Take it to the dealer.

I noticed the same problem with my truck when I first got it. I dont think there was anything wrong with it - there's just not a whole lot of suspension travel on a stock truck. I can't imagine how much stiffer the springs would need to be in order to prevent it - the ride was rough enough already!

I replaced my stock springs with ones that are 2" longer (same spring rate), and that fixed the problem.

Where did you get those springs and how much?

My 2500 hits the stops as well on every speed bump it isn't harsh you can just feel the suspension end. It feels like there is only 3-5" of spring......

Coilsprings.com

Around $300 shipped (they're heavy!).

I know Skyjacker also sells taller springs which are cheaper (around $200), but Ive heard multiple times that they tend to sag prematurely.

Thanks . . . I might have to look into that. I'll have to say, that is my first disappointing find on the truck so far . . . well . . . besides the horn and the lights flashing when I put it in reverse with the door open . How hard were they to put on? I've never put springs on before . .have done plenty of shocks. My F450 had leaf springs in the front.

Not too difficult. Jack it up, remove the shocks, lower the axle, replace the springs. I would also recommend disconnecting the track bar - it's not absolutely necessary, but it'll make things easier.

also dissconnect the sway bar. you will get more flex. Shocks and springs are quite easy. I say that now that I have removed mine 6 or more times. Ive got it down now. LOL
