Water Injection is your friend
Water Injection is your friend
First, Happy New Year to everyone. This year, my plan is to recommend water injection to anyone who mods their CR engines. Heavily Bombed? Better get that water system ordered sooner rather than later.
This is by far the least expensive way to drop those cylinder temps.
Of course cams, and proper airflow is an important part of life in a high powered CR engine as well, but if you have a short budget and cant swing a new camshaft , good singles or twin turbos right now......think long and hard about water.
EGT is not the same thing it used to be in the 12's and VP 24's. Gage readings indicate much less about what is happening long before the exhaust valve ever opens in the CR than it did back then.
Mild methanol mixtures are a great idea too. Nothing crazy though.
After several years of hard work on the CR and the damage associated with high power density in these engines I aint kiddin' when I say watch those temps.

Good to hear from Don M on this subject!
Glad i bought a stage 2 snow kit. It should be installed this week....I plan to run nothing but Snow's water/meth mix. No custom mixes for me.
I have heard to buy nothing but the Snow kit. They use nylon in their lines while some other companies don't. Methanol can eat rubber but not nylon supposedly.

Really now? That's interesting. Maybe I should be looking at a new turbo. I need to see how your's spools though and smoke control cause right now I gotta watch myself otherwise I cover intersections.
Don, what's your take on water in the VP trucks? I'm probably gonna order mine after I get studs put in.

How is this kit? http://www.coolingmist.com/detailmai...d=dieselstage3
Seems like a really nice setup, how do their kits compare to the Snow kits?

I fabricated a 2-stage, 2-jet water/meth system at the shop. The 10 gallon SS tank w/level sensor and vent mounts where the muffler used to be, and there's a return bypass to prevent the IP from cycling excessively.
The jets are threaded into the intake manifold, and both solenoids and all of the Hobbs switches are mounted close by.
