Waste Gate Stuck?
Waste Gate Stuck?
Ben having some strange sounds for my truck lately. I high pitch whissle at higher boosts and what sounds like a lot of air rushing out from under the truck. Also it will only make about 25psi of boost, running the EZ on 4 it use to do the low 30's.
I have check every rubber boot from the turbo to the intake a couple of times and can find nothing bad. So I crawled under the truck to see if their were anything that looked like leaks around the turbo and exhaust and nothing. Also I figured I would check out the waste gate while I was their and I can't get it to move at all, pried on it with a big screw driver and banged on it a little and it didn't move at all. How hard should it be to mave that thing, I figured I would be able to open and close it?
What would cause it to freeze up? I do run the exhaust brake alot in the winter to help with warm up, but I have never heard of this being a problem.

Yeah, you definitely have a boost leak... I'd just start checking all the hose connections starting from the outlet of the turbo and following all the way to the intake elbow. Just start tightening the clamps. Sometimes they are a little too loose from the factory.

Spray that intercooler down could be one of the elbows leaking or a good rock hit might have knocked a hole in there . Good luck boost leaks can be a real bear to find ........... clean all the hoses and such real good and watch for the telltale signs of a leak .

it isn't going to harm your engine in any way as long as everything is up to temprature... there are some factory tests that require the engine to be at top idle...

Heard some guys talking about the gasket on the intake leaking near the back. A couple of bolts came loose and blew the gasket out. Not that I have seen it myself, just remembered reading it on here. What do the impeller blades look like? Any play in the shaft? Usually the wastegate gets stuck closed when it happens, so I would doubt that that is it, but which way were you trying to move it? Try it both ways. I can move mine with needle nose pliers kind of using them as a lever prying against the housing on the rod.

you can take the "C" clip off the waste gate and remove the rod to the side. it is a pain to get back on but you will be able to move the waste gate back and forth to see if that is your prob.
