Hey guys, I'm wondering if Edge or someone makes a box that provides a fuel mileage increase, but not necessarily a power increase? I suppose 20-30 hp would be fine, but I don't really want to bomb this truck like I did the last one. I'm just looking for the best bang for the buck in terms of mileage now since it's costing me $60.00 per tank now to fill.

 

The Edge EZ in the 40-50 hp setting increased my mileage about 2 mpg. It is safe for your truck at those levels. I have been running mine for almost 2 years now and love it. I just want more power! I am going to be selling mine, so If you are interested, PM me and maybe you could get yourself a good deal on one!

We will soon be carrying the new fuel box being made by Don M in our online store. Knowing the tremendous amount of time and effort Don puts into his R&D of his products, It would not be much of a stretch to assume the quality of this box will compare with his injectors.

We all know his Injectors are the very best money can buy, so I expect good things from this product as well. I will send you some info on it once it becomes available

 

Wow, behind the scenes stuff that not even jack knows about.

 

I have a prototype box for you Jack. It adds about 25-50 HP in the low range, but allows the truck to defuel for towing. Its not a big power or ultra high pressure box like the others, but it really adds mileage. We see about 3 MPG average increase. Peppy driving box. It has more bottom end pep than the other boxes available. We tested them all.

it does not fool boost. It stays stock. Just a slight pressure increase.

Jack, the boxes that increase the mileage will make you suffer thru increased power. I know that is tough!!!
Then all you have to do is control the power with the long pedal.

The best way to get better mileage? Air up the tires, slow down alittle, and schedule multi-task trips.

 

The sure-fired ways to help mileage are obvious. Lessen the work the truck must do. Don't run the tires low which increases rolling resistance. Run slower, which not only decreases drag, but also turns less RPM which = less fuel burned. If you tow, make sure the trailer tires up (see low trailer tires a lot), and try and keep the trailer drag down too.

As for things you can/add to the truck to help with mileage:
Use a tonneau cover to decrease drag.
Run good Synthetic oils to keep friction down.
Better intake and exhaust components. Easier flow can result in better mileage via better response and less backpressure. Think about what happens with a vacuum cleaner if you restrict the intake, the motor works a lot harder to try and suck air. The stock stuff, mostly the filter is restictive. When I changed from the stock airfilter to an Airaid Filter w/MIT tube my filter minder doesn't get pulled down at all vs. over 30% stock. On the exhaust side, the engine has to work harder to expell burnt gases. Both of which add pumping losses.

Those are all pretty proven and will help some (nothing earth shattering on their own, but will add up). After all going from 17 to 18 mpg is a 6% increase.

Not of course there are the boxes that effect fuel timing and such. If you play around with setting you could very well find something that increases your mileage. But they are also more expensive too. I'd start with the basics and see what you get, and move from there. After all, you'll never have a shortage of parts to try.

 

We have been getting good reports of mileage increases using the Turbo Air Guide III (TAG-III). Last week one of the techs at a well known Dodge dealer in our area did a dyno and emissions tests using the TAG-III in his personal truck. The dyno results showed little to no change in hp and torque even though the tech says he feels more power driving the truck. This is expected as dyno runs are full throttle excursions and are not indicitive of the conditions while driving. The emissions test showed a dramatic reduction in emissions ie:smoke which is a good thing and he reported a 2mpg increase in fuel mileage.

 

gdh11 - I could not agree more, with fuel prices what they are it is about time someone stepped-up with a box aimed at increased mileage with good usable low RPM power! I am looking forwatd to Don M's new box and will watch the results with a purchase in mind.

 

No offense Car nuts but I don't believe for half a second that someone got 2 mpg from the tag. Just not possible. He must of added something else at the same time or changed his driving habits.

 

Jack, I would recommend the Edge EZ. You can set it for level 1
which is (40/150) and enjoy 1-2mpg increase. I purchased a used
one off e-Bay 2 weeks ago for 1/2 the price of a new one.
I've already watched my mpg go up 1.5 mpg. Its hard not to
put your foot into it and enjoy the power. Level 4 rocks !!!
I dont plan on towing with the Edge hooked up (well ok, maybe
level 1)
