Want fuel mileage increase, but not power
just spent $620 ON AFE pro guard 7 system, torque tube and 51 in, donaldson muffle, $ include muffler installation,,,,was really really hoping for a mileage increase,,,,,,,,,,put the air kit on first the mileage actualy decreased! so i figuired,,the air kit is pumping more air in but the muffler is restricting it. Had the donaldson put on this morning. hopes still running high, i pulled onto the interstate with the donaldson super muffler installed,,,,,folks,,,I"m not seeing a mileage improvement, infact,,at this point it seems i lost 1 mpg, i did fill the tank before test the donaldson, so i may have gotten winterized fuel ,cause it"s cold up here in wi. now,,but with the air kit it was the same fuel i was useing before i put it on
the truck does seem like it has more power, but that may be a mind trick, cause i can hear the turbo spool up now.
guess I"m going to have to wait till next summmer to see if i have a mileage increase

I would be VERY interested in a box that helps with fuel economy especially if it can be stacked with my Banks setup for more timing i would imagine. I heard several months ago about the possibility of the EDM's increasing mileage by as much as 4 mpg. That would be awsome and i would most definitely get a set if that were the case...
Don- any info on those EDM's coming down the line yet?

ed paul, I recently have been experimenting with tire pressure. I'm running 75lbs in the front cold (meaning I measure them in the early morning) and 70 in the rear tires... Just from stiffening up my tires I'm getting approx. .6MPG increase. hand calculated. My last tank full was 16.65 hand calculated. Having a cover on the bed helps too. How many miles are logged now on your truck.

Easy enough to find out for yourself, DPP offers a full refund if the TAG doesn't perform as you would like, no questions asked.
After testing the TAG III with my shaker hood application that has a smooth bore flex hose, I noticed an improvment of at least 1.5 mpg on my return trip from Denver recently.
I must add that I also added the latest VA on my 555 04 Ram so I was not easy on the throttle coming home, nor was I on the way down with just the EZ on level 6. I was also stacked VA and EZ homeward bound.
So I guess there can be some variables to what is netting the mileage increase.
I filled up the big tank in Gilette Wyoming on the way down when the factory tank was under 1/4 so the majority of the fuel was from one station...I also topped up there on the way back and then did my calculations.
Overhead read 16.6 down and 17.9 back
Calculated gave 17.15 down and 18.7 on the way back.
Same route, similar weather.
Then I shut the VA off for my most recent trip of over 2000 kilometers and I again netted 18.4 mpg...down a bit but still better then before.
I am one of the biggest skeptics when it comes to stuff like the TAG or the additives.
I found that Lubetec has an additive that definately improves mileage and power and the TAG gave me a bit better mileage too.
I was not using the Lubetec and have not in this truck so far.
Thats my findings from several long road trips with the TAG.
Theres always room for error or oversights but this covered it as close as I could with all the variables that are possible.

Folks, From everything I've heard and read one thing comes to the front....heat. The hotter a diesel engine runs within reason the more efficient it is. When you add the air flow and the muffler this cools the intake of air and actually decreases the efficiency. Cooling is important if bombed with mods and egts are near max without a load, but if you are able to keep temps high, airflow smooth, and fuel use light then higher mileage will result. Running my TST on 1 I've noticed a slight increase in mileage of 1 to 1.2 mpg. Unfortunately, one stop light level 6 rip and I'm back to the same old mileage. Nice having the option of mileage and usable power on the fly. I've switched from 1 to 5 while passing if an oncoming car approaches faster than inspected and back down to 1 and have noticed a towing mileage increase of 2 to 2.4 mpg. Power must not be abused!

I for one, like placebos that yield quicker tubro spool up and increased fuel economy, not to mention the reduced smoke. We have seen really good results and feed back from the 2003 trucks, you should try a TAG-III on your truck then you would be able to compare it for yourself. After all if you don't like what it does, then you can return it to us for a refund. Also if you look at page 117 in the Turbo Diesel Register you will find infromation about the TAG installed on a 2003 truck done independantly by one of the writers for the magazine.
Increase mid-range HP, Torque, and MPG
There are several pages I have been reading where diesel owners want to increase HP and still gain MPG. I have units for the Cummins that will increase mid-range RPM HP, torque, and still give 60 to 120 more miles per tankful. The module snaps into factory wiring under the hood, will not set codes, does not increase EGT so it does not require a pyrometer, does not require a larger exhaust, does not require an expensive AM airbox, and yet takes less than two minutes to install. If you are interested in learning more, email: thepostman1@sbcglobal.net so that I can visit with you.

I'm just looking for the best bang for the buck in terms of mileage now since it's costing me $60.00 per tank now to fill.
Ping Quad on his upcoming timing only box. Not much of a hp gain (20-30 or so hp) but should help increase the fuel economy.
