Texas law does say its legal to use deadly force if you feel threatened and the person is tresspassing on your property. Just another reason I am soo proud to be Texan!

Reading this thread made me really nervous tonight at Billy Bob's in Ft Worth. (largest honky tonk in the world for those of you that don't know) Its on the edge of a bad neighborhood....not having a security system or a CHL made me even more nervous....I bet yall that have either or both feel a lot safer and sleep a lot better at night!

Car theft is pretty big business in some areas. You'd be suprised what tools these guys will use. I saw a program on TV about a car theft ring that was shipping high dollar stolen cars (new porsches, mercedes, etc) overseas. These guys had laptops that they could plug into the diagnostic ports of the cars to override factory ignitions kill switches and GPS locators. They had lookouts, radio communication, etc... Probably not likely in this case, but it has happened.

Not property.
Deadly force is only allowed to protect yourself(and family/friends) from death.
When there is NO other option, including letting them run away.
As bad as it is, if there is an out of letting them escape and they are unarmed, if you shoot and or kill them, you ARE going to jail. The gunslinger days are long gone in this sue happy world. Even if you dont serve jail time for the shooting, you will be sued by the family, because remember, their son/daughter that just tried to rob/kill you was SOOOO innocent...

Two pieces of advice, bellow the knee isnt intent to kill, and drop guns(not registered to you) can get you out of a pickle.
But again, only when absolutely necessary can you use deadly force.

You NEED to stay out of that place! Your Mother and I did not spend all that money on College, just to have you swilling down in a Honky Tonk

Car theives, and all theives in general, should be hung or dragged by the neck until dead.

1. when some dumb butt kids moved in to the condos i used to live at, my $700 convection grill was stolen. i was furious, so i went to the police sub-station and had a chat w/ the officer on-duty. his relpy was in texas the use of deadly force was authorized to protect yours and your neighbors property. not trying to stir anything up, but that is what i was told. if you let them run away, they are going to do it again and most likely be carrying away my stuff. the CCW also says shoot to stop. not shoot to kill. if someone is breaking into my truck they can bet ill be aiming for their leg but i might get their ***** ...i usually shoot a little to the right and i might forget to compensate so whoops...

2. there is a product called a big-easy. its a lock out kit that uses a little bag kinda like a BP cuff, 2 wedges and a yellow rod that can be used to create a void in the top right hand corner of the door and the rod is used to press the unlock button and pull the door handle. i can unlock almost any car in less than 30 sec. from the time i grab the bag.

these are just my opinions and some of the tools that are at our disposal. also my Glock 22 w/ 130 grain corbon ammo is my anti-theft deterant.

brett

happy holidays to everyone and be safe btw

Ah come on Larry! Gotta have some fun sometimes! Being in areas like that makes me nervous and this thread does to. This thread is my deciding factor to get an alarm. too much time, money, and effort spent in this truck to see it disappear.

Can someone provide a link to a good alarm system please?

I recall the law to say that you must "feel threatened" for your own well being before you can use firearms. But hey, if the cops said that, do it! No one will steal from you again. I live in some apartment/condo things. Some drunk guy was trying to come through my front door one night...at a little after 1am....I opened the door and asked if he had a problem while I held a 12 gauge in my hand he left, quickly.

I'd probably feel the same if I had a new belly button that you could find on any lot, but some guys have rare, hard to find trucks w/ lots of hours in them...

when was the last time you dealt w/ an insurance company?!

in TX, you do not have to feel threatened... in a self defense situation, you do...

but in a loss of property situation, you can use deadly force if you feel that you will not be able to reclaim/replace your property by any other means

greatest state in the nation!

i own a 2 year old akc registered male boxer. stays in the truck with the windows cracked when i go places. big baby until it comes to territorial issues and its easy to tell when someons been close to my pickup due to slobers all over the windows. nobody in there right mind would break into it and let him out lol, works great as an anti-theft device

I jump in my truck and proceed to try and catch up ... they get stuck at stop light but by the time I get there they sneak through the intersection and I am stuck at the light behind other cars ... went back and reported to gym to pull survalliance video but I am sure they or the cops will have little interest in this especially with Mexico plates.

Ironically this was the best parking I had ever got at the gym ... second spot and directly under a light ... about 50 feet from entrance of the gym with people walking in and out .

If I had only been able to make it through that stop light I might have made the 10pm news and gave those guys a . 1 in RAM with insurance vs. 2 in Mitsubishi is highly in my favor if it came down to it and who knows what I was capable of with all that adrenaline pumping. But then again, I had little proof of this event (passenger door half open) so it probably would have been me going to jail the way our system works.

I do have to aplogize to all I-10 drivers as I had so much adrenaline flowing and was looking for some to hit ... the two people that cut me off last night on the way home sure got a good round of frustating venting from me

Am kinda mad at my myslef as I should have reacted quicker and walked away from my vehicle and back into the gym or just far enough away to look unsuspecting as had my cell phone in my hand and could have called to get the cops there as they are always very close by. Or , see if someone else would have been willing to block there car in with theirs. Also did not get license plate number or even an exact make/model. It is kinda odd how we react in situations we are unfamiliar with even when we know what we should be doing

My truck and wifes car were broke into only 4 months ago sitting in front of my house. I am very frustrated but also lucky as the first time they just smashed the windows and got one cancelled check book out of the deal and this time I walked up on them as they had just got the door open and they got nodda.

I have never had anyone even try to break into any of my vehicles and have always driven mustangs, vettes, and other nice stuff. I guess these CTD's are in black market demand. Any reasons for this ??? I mean, are they easier to break into than other stock vehicles or just a string of bad luck for me ??? I do have Weld wheels and Nitto tires but that is it ... everything else stock.

Looks like a Viper alarm is in store or let me know if there is something better out there these days. The gym is on the south sid eof Phoenix right next to I-10 so it is an easy escape to Mexico or where ever and my house is on the other side of Phoenix next to a highway with a direct shot into Mexico also so this might not be last time this happens to me.
**** that sucks you might want to checkout lowjack its a chip thats installed that allows the police to track your truck. Ive got lowjack and clifford alarm with ignition kill.
