My gym has no postings about firearms. Keepin it in a gym bag would be a good idea... Laws are getting stricter though. You're supposed to give him an opportinity to run away. If he threatens you, you're supposed to walk away. Now, if he corners you- you can shoot him. You'd probably still go to court if you shot him in the back while he was getting into your truck.

True, now as much as id LOVE to shoot the **** breaking into my truck, its not worth going to jail for some punk like that.
It would be more for just-n-case he is armed, or tries to rob you with a weapon while trying to steal your car. The smart thing is to avoid the situation, but if theres no way out of it and no escape, it will be him going down over me or any of my loved ones/friends.

Probly be a lot less crime if we could get away with shooting bad guys, but I'd rather deal with the insurance company than go to prison. (I'm too pretty to go to prison )

Just shooting the filthy thief isn't as much fun as a good ole fashioned Edit-beating that makes them wish you would shoot them. Of course thugs these days are to quick to pull a gun on you if go for the beating.

LOL, same here...

Like I said, as much as id like to string up thieves and torcher them, its not worth the hassle and the jail time.
The CHL/gun is for just-n-case the blank hits the fan. Not for petty car thieves...

But that only helps if you're present. Good idea to have a good alarm/theft-deterrent/vehicle disable/tracking system.

That is a good looking Dan Wesson you have there. I see one of those in my future. Got to love the bobtail. How does it shoot?

You do not have to carry a BIG weapon, check this out http://www.naaminis.com/index.html
I carry a 5-shot magnum with the folding grip. It is a nice, small effective gun. Also, a can of fluorescent spray paint should be in you gym bag. You can spray paint the car for identification at the border or by the police. It will dry completely by the rushing air as they try to escape, and with good street coordinates when you call into the authorities they can pick them out of a crowd.

So, how did they gain entry into your vehicle? Did they use the screwdriver alongside the door handle? I guess we all should be getting what it takes to at least slow them down, or just look too difficult to bother with, eh?

Sorry to hear of your problem, all of our border areas are the last place you want to be with a new Dodge as they are the #1 vehicle on the list, the CTD makes it even better over the Hemi. We have not had as much of this type of theft in my immediate area, but it IS creeping further north from the border every day.

I think you reacted like most of us without a firearm would have. You protected your truck. As for alarms my first line of defense is a ruger.second line is state farm.

Runs great, shoots straight. So good I decided to get a razorback 10mm as well (that commander bobtail is 45acp).

Don't want to hijack/side-track the thread. Go here for more on DW gear.

Well so far in Texas it is still legal to use deadly force to protect your property. But the CHL is almost useless. Not many places that you can legally enter with a gun. So leaving in the truck is sort of counter productive in a breakin. I have a Walther PPK 32 auto with silver tipped hollow points that is very easy to conseal and will do the job.

Sounds like a time when my wife and I caught 2 jerks smashing the front windshield of my then new fiero in '86 out side a bar in St Louis.
Ended up in a back alley car chase for about 5 minutes...finally stopped before we wrecked into something never caught the Edit

but from then on....he's my hero:

CD,

I dont know how they got in and forgot to mention this. I am not sure they got all the way in but I thought I did see the door open slightly as I walked up on it. When they were done the door was latched but not shut all the way and it was unlocked by them. My truck was really dirty (maybe thats why they liked it ... a dirty truck should be worth more) and could not find even a hint of any disturbance of the dirt/scum on the door edges, window, or window trim. It was also weird as I specifically remember making a mental note that I double checked I had locked the doors as I know this area is a high theft area. Was also weird I made another mental note just as I was leaving the gym that I was carry my wallet and phone in my hand and probably not a good idea if someone was lookin for someone to jack. It is just so ironic that with all these mental notes and awareness that something actually did happen almost as if someone was kinda preparing me for it ... and I still messed it up . In retrospect, I also think someone was looking out for me as there was probably a really good chance one or both of these guys were packing and I could have been in big trouble ... especially without being able to run due to my knee.

Ok, back on subject, these guys really seemed to have a system. I am convinced they had a two way radio as the driver had to warn the thieve as there was no way he could have seen him from the other side of my truck plus there were no audibles to warn him either.

I was talking with a girl at work about this and she said she locked her keys in her Durango a couple weeks ago. When the lock guy came out she said he had an air bag like device that they put in the door (?) and it caused enough seperation that they had alot of room to work and not come even close to scuffing up the paint, etc. and they were in within just a minute or two. Not sure of the specifics of this device and seems unlikely most thieves would have this but these guys did seem way to calm to not be pros.
