Sweet! I saw that one on quickserve, but wasn't sure if it would work. Are you able to remove the VC with that breather still attached? or do you have to unscrew it first?

You have to remove the breather to get the valve cover off. I found it best to leave the valve cover bolts out and it will let the cover to come foreward another 1/2 inch. Get the breather bolted tight before putting in the 6 cover bolts. It is tight getting the bolt in there. You could probably cut out a little patch of insulation and it would help out a lot. I used a stubby ratchet wrench and it worked out pretty good.

Hey matego.
You certainly did an excellent job on your project. Looks GREAT !!!!
What is the P/N on that breather you found would work? Can't read the number from the pic. Also, did you order your parts straight from Cummins? Or, can they be ordered off the Cummins website? Looks like something that would make a great UPGRADE to the plastic stuff we got on our trucks.

The breather P/N is 3958460 and the o-ring to seal it is P/N 3958414. I ran piece of blue hose off of the end of the breather and ran it beside the block. I need a few more clamps to secure it, but it seems to work for now. I might get some 3/4 in. air brake line and use it instead. It is nice to heat and shape it the way you want it.

The 3969481 is the latest part number for the same thing. They changed p/n for some reason. I have not found a great way to run the breather yet. I have the trans out again waiting on another clutch, so I can get right there and figure something out. I will jet you know if I come up with something. Take the time to prep the new valve cover, it makes it look so much better. Good luck!

I cant really find the original pics, but here are some I had on photobucket. You need:
1- 3969481 valvecover
6- 3959400 valvecover bolts
1- 3958460 breather
1- 3958414 breather o-ring
On the side of the valve cover there is a 12mmX1.5 threaded hole that Lloyd just hooked up a 1/2in hose to and he said it worked for him. I used the plastic breather and extended it with blue hose all the way down to the axle. The pics are a little dirty but the powder coat shines very nice when I get after it.

It comes bare aluminum. There was a good amount of sanding and grinding to get rid of all the casting marks/flaws. I had it powder coated red. I think its worth all the prep work because it looks really good. Any time I am around Cummins guys I get hit with a lot of questions about it. Not a lot of guys have them.
