Question urethane film paint protection

Greetings all,

I'm thinking to have some protective urethane film installed on the rockers, fenders/wheel-wells, and entire front of my new rig. So far the leading contender product is ClearShield

I'm posting to poll the DTR community for any experience with this or other comparable makes of films.

TIA,
Dane

Ps. I've also installed Husky rear mud guards (for dually, work well) and now have the front ones in hand ~> model 56061 comes up via the Husky site's product search for my '07 3500 MegaCab but only one (center) hole lines up and it seems a bit smallish. Anyone else install the husky front mud guards?

$350 for rockers & fenders/wells (dually), $500 for that + entire front-end. 5-yr warranty so I'm probably going to pull the trigger on this one very soon (before I get a chip)

FWIW, I think that the liners you are talkin about would look better, but I can get my rockers done with a spray on liner for about 300. Havent got a quote yet but I am gettin my bed done over the rails Fri for 375, I am gettin a discount throught a friend who's company has about 20-25 pickups that they have lined at this place.

I was just lookin into my alternatives.

I assume you install this yourself, or is professional instalation required?

Those are installed prices at my local tinting shop (got the quote when I had the front windows tinted 2 days ago). I had my bed done over the rail with line-x also and was considering having the rockers done w/line-x but I think the film will look best, can be done on the front, and came in much, much less $$ (rocker line-x is expensive, as I recall). If you have the hooks (<$) on the spray-in rockers that could definitely be a + factor in deciding. I understand it is quite the pain to do the rockers as they have to mask off the trucks interior (spray thru).

I agree on the looks, I think that the film would look much better, especially depending on the color of the truck. I am gonna hold off right now on what to do with the rockers, I just dont know if black liner will look good on a black truck.

I am having my bike repaired at Pertersons, and the service manager after asking him why the estimate said urethane protective film, he said all harley painted parts have the film from the factory. Just a FYI, I read this post and found it interesting. It works after some dumb @##@$ backed over my bike, one of those yuppy SUV drivers. It never scratched the paint, only thing was a dent in the fender.

I don't know if it is mylar or urethane, or what, but in his sig it says Full Truck 3M Wrap. Sounds expensive.

The spray-liner rockers could look quite excellent, but I agree with you on the black on black. Whenever doing same color a bit of mismatch is more noticeable. I like the way the black line-x over the rail looks against the inferno red pearl coat.

Gahhh - someone dumped your hog? I'd be ~> Same thing happened to a friend of mine but when he was on it and stopped at a light. Apparently the guy driving behind him was distracted.
Thanks for the report ~ sounds reassuring on the durability.

& that would be the epitome of extravagance , which I can appreciate. I'm aiming more towards the epitome of efficiency (high performance/$ quotient)

Sorry for the delay in posting; I was out today...

Yes I have what I THINK is a 3M wrap (could be this clear shield) on my entire truck. I plan on having this truck for a very long time and since it sits outside all day and night and is driven all winter long, I knew protecting the entire thing when new was key. The stuff is AMAZING! No chips or scratches at all!

It requires professional installation and is VERY expensive to hav ethe whole truck (I think it was $8,700) but in my opinion totally worth it. I hav ejust the front, mirrors, and rocker panels done on my Lamborghini ($1,000) and it works like a charm. THis stuff really does work. I cannot say it enough or recommend it any more highly. EVERYONE should have this on their truck IF they can afford to.

Will it keep the pine-needles out of all the drainage routes? j/k
Consider it resolved - $500 sounds like a steal for front-end, rockers & wheel-wells (why did I write "bumpers" b4? ) . I'll schedule it up first thing maņana.

Appreciate the input all! Will report back this thread post-install if there's any further interest.
