Uncapping

A friend has a 7.3 that he runs "uncapped" and i love the sound. Its like putting your ear to a shell and hearing the ocean except all you hear is Turbo!!! My question is can i do this to my 03 HPCR? If so how close to the turbo can i eliminate the exhaust pipe?

just straight pipe it. depends on where you are located, you can get a ticket for being too loud. if you cut the pipe too close to the motor, all your going to do is get VERY loud and have a ridiculous amount of drone in the cab and cover your entire undercarriage with soot and make a mess.

Like said above, if you want a nice sounding exhaust, just straight pipe it. If you really want to hear the turbo, search the ****** Whistler posts on here. I did the mod and WOW!...its almost too much whistle.

I ran just a 4" downpipe on my 1st gen when I installed a Super 40/35 hybrid and couldn't make it to my friend's muffler shop for about a week. I even drove to my sister's place which was about an hour drive. It was certainly loud, left a hum in my ears and a tingle in my feet for a while after that.

That said, I only ran it that way 'cause I had to. I wouldn't want to have it that way for good. I would straight pipe it and look into a different intake as everyone else has said.

Jimbo,
Are the pics from before the muffler shop or after? My friend owns a muffler shop so i can do anything. Straight pipe all the way to the back? Somewhere in the middle? just tryin to keep cost down cause everything on an island is F@#%&**n expensive.

you cant tune the sound, straight pipe means just removing the muffler and putting in a "straight piece of pipe" to replace the muffler,

Um yeah but i cant very well put in a 20' piece??? Guess I meant: tune the loudness or resonance. BTW isnt an organ tuned by the length of the pipes??? I know my question seems elementary but I was just looking for some input. Thanks guys for ALL the comments
