U-joint Problems
U-joint Problems
Continuing from a previous post about what I thought was a failed u-joint.
The dealer found and replaced the middle u-joint that had no grease and was rusty. I had to pay the $100 deductible but the rest (about $70) was covered under warranty. When I started to drive it home all was fine until about 20mph when the vibration was very noticeable. Apparently they never tested it faster than 20mph. I took it back and left it for them (after hours).
They took two days to get it fixed but called me and told me that all three u-joints were replaced along with the driveshaft since they found it to be out of balance. He also said that while the technician was testing the truck he noticed a clicking sound from the left front so they replaced the left front axle u-joint as well.
While I was initially unhappy about them not testing the truck faster than 20mph, I am now happy that they replaced the drive-line and took the initiative to repair something that I didn't know about. Maybe my trust in this dealer is going up. I'm certainly not taking it back to other dealer (Elkhart, IN area) that screwed me out of their 'diagnostic fee' when testing for my bad backup switch (that they never have called me to tell me it's in).
This dealer in Niles, MI is much more responsive and I will deal with them from now on.

stock u-joints suck - If you have another u-joint problem save yourself the $100 deductable and just take your truck to a driveline shop; had 2 ujoints replaced in my rear driveshaft for $90, and I guarantee they are better than stock
