I'm surprised it's not a more popular option...

I've been interested in doing this with my truck, but I would definitely use an external wastegate on the stock turbo.

Relentless Diesel states on their site that drive pressure is not an issue, but I find that hard to believe. Squeezing 500-600 horsepower's worth of exhaust gasses through a 9cm exhaust housing scares me.

I believe I read on here some where that Nathan has checked the drive pressure and it's not an issue....

I PM'ed Nathan once about the drive pressure with and without an external wastegate. His observations were without the external wastegate he could run 67 lbs boost with 77 lbs drive at WOT. With the external wastegate he still got 67 lbs boost but drive pressure dropped to 73 lbs. EGT also dropped about 50 to 100 degrees with the external wastegate according to Nathan.

The way I look at it is how often are you going to be running at WOT and is it worth it to you to have those gains for the price?

According to Nathan he would go to a different top turbo before doing the external wastegate.

Yep, talk to Nathan. He builds an awesome set of turbos and will be able to answer all of your questions.

I asked nathan the same questions, (about drive pressures/wastegating) and got the same answers. Thanks nathan

I think so, but last time I checked they were still using a HT3B on the bottom. The S400 flows considerably more air than the HT3B.

If you run the stocker for a twin set up do you still get the low boost code that puts your truck in to limp mode?

I've never had any boost-related codes. I doubt it would be a problem since it spools just like the stocker once you throw a little fuel at it. Mine will see 5psi+ at 1200-1300 RPM under just normal driving conditions.
