TST VS. Smarty!!
TST VS. Smarty!!
Dose anyone besides me think the TST is more powerful then the Smarty?
Havent tried 8 or 9 yet, but had it on 6 then tried 7. I would think that with a 130hp tune id be able to tell something
I mean everytime i have the Smarty loaded in the truck it dosnt seem that the Smarty is there, but it is cause it will smoke and i can tell alittle on bottom end but seems to have nothing from there, now when i turn on the TST i can tell a big difference in the truck.
IMHO the TST by itself feels so much stonger then the Smarty by itself, not so much on bottom end witch is only where i can tell the Smarty is doing anything.
My clutch is stock but u can see in my sig i have a DD waiting to be installed, clutch dosent seem to be slipping cause i watch my r's and they dont jump up real fast like the clutch is slipping. Could it be that its slipping just enough that i cant tell and makein the Smarty feel weak?
Do u fellas think i will see a big difference once i get the DD in?
Thanks guys

I don,t have the Smarty ,but I do have the tst r 49 ,and i use a predator on extreme for downloader, and I can only tell that the tst unit by itself is not nearly as strong as the predator feels ,the difference is huge ,even if I play with all the settings the unit has ...
The predator itself when the tst is off feels very powerfull ,before I had my twins it was the same situation.
I think there,s something wrong ,what boost numbers does your r49 remote showing ? must be like 35 psi ?
I use the tst only for timing 9* auto ,and power on 2 ,thats all ,no rail press and no TE ,that seems to be the best by seat of the pants feeling.
There should be a huge huge difference with your Smarty in comparing to stock.

I can spike boost to 40lbs like nothing, have the TST set to 38lbs but if i turn that feature off i can take it past 40lbs easy but try not to to help the little fella live.
Tst by itself most of the time i run 3/3 with the rail pressure on 2 and timing on 12* just riding around and when i feel like playin i turn it up to 5/3 and sometimes 7/2 with the other settings the same, on standard program. On those settings the Smarty has nothing on the TST, it pulls hard even the 3/3 setting feels stronger than the 130hp on the Smarty.
Smarty by itself i can feel it on bottom but when i drop the hammer it dosnt take off like the TST dose. Now when i turn the TST on with the Smarty loaded i can tell a difference it starts to pull like the TST dose by itself.
Am i goin crazy or what?

Which Smarty tune are you running?
Until the latest software dated 12/13/07, I tended to agree with you. Then Bob emailed me a new program, and I have since upgraded to 3V312DD411B, and the TST finally took a back seat. I still love my TST, but I only use it as a supplement.

How much stronger are they then the standard Smarty?
The TST is very strong but, only on the top end. That's why it and the Smarty stack well together. The Smarty does real well on the botton end and then the TST takes over from there.
With these new programs the Smarty has though.... I don't think it would even be wise to stack the two. The TST is very violent in the way it delivers it's power where the Smarty was a bit more docial. I think Marco has these race tunes dialed in pretty good as a stand alone against the TST. They are friends though so, I think a lot of stuff get worked on together between the two boxes.
There's a guy on another forum who just broke 878hp on fuel only using the Smarty TNT/TST stack. He wanted to go for 900hp so he turned up the TST a little !!!! and threw a rod ! The TST is a very powerful box and IMO... needs to have extreme caution used when using it. Been there... really done that !!!

Well for one, until you get that clutch in and get you a fuel system you won't be able to tell the full effect, as the Smarty is a fueling/timing box. Slippage can occur in low rpms to high rpms and go unnoticed when you have things like stacks and loud exhausts and screaming turbos. I know that now since I've seen my old clutch, didn't seem to slip when I had it, no spiking rpms or burning clutch, but now that I see it it was in pretty bad shape.
Now with that said, if those things are done, i would bump up to the 3.11 programming (moderate tq) and test it out. If you want more, then download 4.11 (wild). These will definitley make a difference and show you what the Smarty can do.

I have a AirDog 150 on the truck so the fuel shouldnt be a problem, but if its the clutch then i guess i will have to wait till i get this DD in.
So once i get the DD in i should go for the 4.11 (wild)?
Was thinkin about waiting till the Revo comes out to update it, so with the Revo can i still load the 4.11 or the others like the 4.3 or 4.4 or are these not gonna be needed with Revo update?

The are two different beasts. As you may know the Smarty is a downloader that sets difference ECM parameters where the TST is a inline signal manipulator. IMO...You won't want to add timing, pressure and power from both boxes, that may be a little excessive in each department.
I would say though... if you are going to run them both
keep your eye on things !!! You'll really need to work on tuning to get it right.
