TST unecessary?

I have the TST ra49 stacked with the mp-8 and smarty 4.4 and it doesnt feel like the TST is doing very much. Do I have something wrong or is the TST not going to do much with the smarty. Ive tried all kinds of combinations and so far they all feel close to the same.

I remember WAP telling me that he didnt feel like it was very usefull when you have the smarty. I guess I underestimated what you were telling me. Oh well, maybe it will show its strengths on the dyno. I dont think im running out of fuel either but its hard to say.

Is there a way to test the fuel after the cp3. Or can I just read the TST preassure and assume that anytime it dips lower that im draining the rail? Those preassure #'s on the TST seem to jump all over the place.

I don't know about the rail pressure gauge on the tst, but the Quad gauge is very easy to read and has high and low pressure recall.
A stage 2 or 3 CP3 or Dual Cp3's would bring the TST back in the picture. I've had good luck using the TST timing feature on auto at 12* with the smarty on an even setting. The TST seems to work best set at or near 2/2 or 3/1 with the smarty on the higher settings. I have had the best luck running the standard program on the TST. Even with injectors I'm able to still use the TST. But, you're ultimately right - the smarty is so strong it almost makes the TST seem like it isnt there with the Smarty on the even settings.

On my truck, the TST IS necessary! I'm using the Smarty on level 2 (not the beta software) and it has NOTHING on the top end. Doesn't matter if the Smarty is on level 1 or 9, it's weak on the top. So I use the Smarty to get it going, and the TST to keep it going.

I havent fooled with the timing as of yet, just mostly smarty on 7 with the 4.4 and the tst on 3* auto with tt05 and std programming and 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, 3-1, 1-2, 1-3, and it doesnt do much there. I will try the even settings with the 12*. I think if im gonna do anything to the to the cp3 I will go with duals but Im probably gonna get the rail ported and cap the RV first. I need to get the studs, snow, and 80 hp inj. on first though. I will soon be ordering a commander though or goin with all analog gauges.

Tristan, I think the TST is very useful BUT for the average joe with a smarty it may or may not be worth the coin. And the beta smarty makes a differance too, like stated above the tst is more helpful with a standard smarty.

I usually run around with my smarty on beta 4.4 level 5 with 3* and 3/1. I have been runnin the standard program lately as it keeps my EGTs in check a little better.

Also (though I dont have any first hand experience) I agree with jlilbert, that with a cp3 it would be more useful.

However once you throw some big injectors in the mix that may take the tst out of the equation even more. It will still probably be useful with 80s but if you where to go to 120+s I dont know how much you would use the tst then. It seems the bigger the sticks the less "wiggle" room you have with electronics. JMO

I've downloaded the most recent wild software for modded cp3 and injectors then loaded in 8 with no timing, set the TST on 4,0 and MP8 wide open. It flat out screams. I had an older wild version that was a little more insane feeling, but this current setup works good. The software for the modded cp3 and injectors reduced the timing enough that I don't get the real back timing rattle anymore with this stack either. I'm grinning again. Can 't go to test n tune tonight to see how it performs though.

But I just did a trash run that took about 30 minutes longer than necessary and I'm very happy.
