Trying to decide on trans. pan

What kind of trans. pan do you have and what do you like about it?

I just got a BD trans pan, have yet to install it. It looks to be a quality piece. Has the same features as all the other companies do (drain plug,
temp port, finned on the bottom) I'll let you know how the install goes

I have the Mag Hytec. Nice piece that holds 4 extra quarts of fluid over stock. It helps make changing trans fluid much easier with the built in drain plug..............drain first (which reduces the weight).....then remove pan, change filter...replace and refill.

More capacity for fluid, which gives a little more peace of mind when towing heavy or in stressful conditions. Drain plug built in for R and R. Port for trans fluid temp sensor. Adds rigidity to the transmission case.

I went with an ATS pan. I think it's the only one that has the filter extension ( puts the filter lower to ensure it's always submerged in fluid). It holds 5 extra qts. to help keep the trans cooler. It has the same features as above posts.

I called on a few other co. pans to see if theirs had the filt. ext. and there was none. They said you don't have to worry about that. Well I do, I don't want to suck up any air. I use my brakes pretty good as well as the throttle, so I'd say the fluid gets sloshed back and forth in my case.

Just my .02

The Mag Hytec DD trans pan included a trans filter extension too. I thought they all did. I have no doubt that any of them will work fine and do the same job. Really, I would have just as soon ran the ATS pan as the MH or PML.

Im actually running a MH rear diff cover and PML front diff cover...

Is this for clearance issues with the front end steering components?

I love my PML double deep, been running it for years and has drain plug and temp sensor port. It was a lot less money than the mag hytech because it isn't powder coated but it seems to disapate heat better from what I have read. It is also a high quality product in my honest opinion.

Yes. That and looks. MH, to my knowledge, never fixed the clearance issue and kinda blew it off. There were a couple of threads floating around about it a while back. And this is just personal opinion....but the front Diff MH has a funky looking design to it. So I just went with the black PML on the front. You can't look at the front and the rear of the truck at the same time anyway, so who would know I was "mixing" brands...

That said...I love my MH rear diff cover and trans DD pan.

ive got a mag-hytec DD pan it is very nicely made and stated above alot easier to change the fluid and service the trans. the pan is heavy duty compared to the stocker thats why they cost so much you get what you pay for

Mag-Hytech Double Deep. Aluminum has three times the heat transferring abilities of steel. Plus it has more surface area compared to the stock pan to aid in cooling. According to Mag-Hytech the powder coating has minimal effect on the pans cooling capabilities. Having said all that, the pan looks good, makes fluid changes easier, and helps a little in the cooling of the trans.

If your changing the pan for pan for cooling purposes alone and are expecting a big change, you will be disappointed. The pan will only provide about a 5-10 degree difference in my experience. However, I still like it.

The main reason I got one was, like TexasCTD mentioned, to add rigidity to the trans case. I don't know if it happens but with the amount of torque that goes through the drivetrain, it seems that it might be possible to tweak the case and that would cause problems with the valve body. I got my Mag-Hytec pan for peace of mind and for a little bling. These aftermarket pans are built strong. Mag-Hytec was my personal preference but ATS, TCI, BD, PML and others have similar products.

Mag-Hytech Double Deep for reasons already mentioned above.

I have an Oasis Ram's head rear diff and PML front diff painted red for "Bling" factor. Both diff covers hold additional fluid, and are aluminum alloy but far thicker than the stock covers and both have drain plugs.
