truck smokes more at higher altitude?

ive had an XZT on my truck since april and it really never smoked much, unless i really got on it but when i did you could barely notice it. i lived in the savannah ga area.

now that i live in the Ft Huachuca AZ area which is aroud 4700 ft above sea level the truck smokes alot, i mean when im driving normally from a stop light im leaving a black trail of smoke and when i put my foot in it the smoke is really going.

any ideas?

The higher up you go, the less air you got, so yes you'll smoke more. The truck will adjust to it, however due to the fact that the turbo isn't move as "much" air, you will have more fuel in the cylinder that's unburnt. Don't worry about it.

The 1st. thing I'd check would be the manifold pressure sensor. It may be dirty/plugged up.If it's clean,I'd have to ask if there is any knocking.Possibly a leaking fuel injecter. Is the boost normal?Check the waste gate.May be stuck open a little. If not then call quad.Or try unplugging the quad,& see if it's still doing it. Assumeing of course that your air filter isn't plugged up from the trip up there.

The truck will smoke more at altitude and not much you can do about it except cut back on the fuel. I would however do as previously mentioned make sure your map sensor is good, check for boost leaks and wastegate operation. Not familiar with your box but if it has an adjustment on it for how much fuel it dumps at a specific boost level you might try raising it some.

What? Dude, it's cuz yer up in altitude. I live at sea level. I gotta really get on it for her to smoke. My buddy and I both took our trucks to Mammoth last winter which is at about 7000 feet (he has an 05 CTD also). Both trucks trucks were smokin' somethin' fierce up there. It was awesome! As soon as we came back down, they were back to normal. There's nothing wrong with yer truck.

i live at 8500ft above sea level, and my truck turns day to night pretty quickly. at sea level it smokes noticably less.
