truck died...FASS?

fuel gauge read a hair more than an 1/8 tank...sitting at a stoplight. anywhere below 1/2 tank while sitting still the fass pump will whine horribly and FP drops to around 4 then will shoot back up.

anyhow, pump was whining fluctuating FP and then the truck shook and then died. tried to restart and it wouldn't until i re cycled the key and waited for the grid heater light to go off.

Best i can figure is the FASS got too much air in it and starved the motor of fuel. it wouldn't restart until it had fuel again...thats why it wouldn't restart til i let the grid heaters do their thing injecting diesel.

am i correct? wheres Dan the FASS/Drew womack guy??

If you had the big fuel lines installed with the Fass 150, 1/8 of a tank is empty. The big lines do not reach all the way to the bottom of the tank. You probably did run it out of fuel, but somehow it picked up enough to get you running again.

You should really be filling up at 1/4 tank.

The grid heaters really don't have anything to do with your re-start. It was probably the wait for the pump to clear the air out of the line that made the difference.

I have a black iron fass pick-up and we positioned it in the lowest spot on the tank bottom and cut it and fitted it to be 1/4" off the bottom....I don't run to 0 miles to empty too much but I've gotten 30 miles so far...IF you cut it off 3/4" from the bottom...the sloshing when coming to a stop would have a good chance to such air but at least FASS gets rid of that entrapped air. ks

I have to fill up at 1/4 tank also. I was on an incline nose first one time with a 1/4 tank and the truck died. I barely got it started and that is when I started filling up at 1/4 tank. No more problems.

Yes, I will totally agree with all the replys to this thread. Between 1/4 and 1/2 tank, fuel goes in............

Yup, 1/8 of a tank on the gauge it's time for fuel with mine, meaning it's needed right then and there. Don't ask....

YOu need to get the pipe about 1/8" off the bottom....i mean close! Where you can just get the tip of your finger under the pipe. BUT like mentioned.....you need to keep fuel in your tank when the light comes on.
