The Triple Dog came today...

I ordered and have recieved the BullyDog Triple Dog and I'm going to pop it in before I go home from work tonight. Interesting thing though, it says you can now change the program in use on-the-fly, as in while you are driving down the road using the menu option on the unit (I verified it's there now). It's internet updatable but apparently there are no updates and there are no links to it online yet.

The tech support guy also said the power numbers are the same on the 03 as they were previously. I'll let ya know how it goes. I'll be driving from WI to TX friday night so I should also know mileage soon.

Well I put about 50 miles on it today and I have a few observations. I went from an EZ on level 4 to this thing, all else is 100% stock. It was 85 and very humid tonight.

One, I can't get this thing to put out over 1200 degrees EGT (pre-turbo) no matter what I do. I suppose going up a mountain pass with 15k on the trailer would help, but nothing I could do, no matter how stupid, would get me more than 1200, and 1200 was really trying hard. I could get my EZ on 4 up to 1300 once in a while.

I can't seem to discern any performance difference between the 3 settings. As the device and the manual state, you just plug it in and select the power level you want. Of course nothing in the box or on the downloader says how much that's supposed to be, either.

I wouldn't say it's got more oomph than the EZ. The EZ came on hard around 1700rpm and petered out at 2600 or so. This thing doesn't come on nearly as hard down there, but if you have a good head of boost going it takes off at about 2100 rpm. And you have to hold it *all* the way to the boards to get it going. Otherwise it seems nearly stock.

I guess I'm happy because the EZ did weird things (lopey idle, killed at stop signs once in a while, etc). I still want to know why all the settings seem the same, any ideas? If I nail the go-pedal at a stop out of gear it smokes thick and black the same on all 3 levels?!?!? I don't know what's going on! But I can tell you I would feel the difference between 50 and 130 HP, if that's indeed what they still are rated at.

What setting to run for a 1,000 mile jaunt to Texas this weekend? No load, just me.

Back to basics: Have you checked the instalation? The is no instruction book to tell you what it is suppose to do? What kind of boost are you seeing?

The instructions are clear: Plug it in and select the vehicle type on the downloader and follow instructions on the downloader. That consists of plugging it in, uploading the program (there's no choice, one program), key on, let it init, then select the power level . Selecting the power level is just a matter of plugging in and selecting it on the menu. There's no way to mess it up!

Right now my boost gauge is unhooked due to laziness. The EZ is sitting on the workbench but the boost elbow is still installed.

That thing cant be on the 130 hp setting - other wise there would be a huge differance over the Ez - Power & smoke & Egts.
I run the old pup, the 90 hp setting sucks, the 130 hp setting - huge differance in btm end power & throttle responce - Then you stack it for some more !

You might be running out of fuel. What's your fuel pressure at?

I agree about the fuel pressure, especially since you've been running an EZ. With my 4.5 and Quad race box I noticed no difference in my 100 and 130 HP settings. Reason? Running out of fuel and hitting a wall so to speak. Check out the auxillary fuel pump kit Kyle at Xtremediesel.com has for $250.00. Comes with a Carter pump and all hoses wiring and connectors to deliver 15 pounds all the time.

It could be FP. I don't have a gauge on it yet but I will shortly. I was planning on a turbo upgrade but it looks like I don't need it so far . I'm going to change the fuel filter, it's due anyways.
