transmission upgrades needed to tow 12k+???
a buddy of mine (skynard on here) might be towing my truck about 600-700 miles in may, and I am wondering what will be needed to handle the weight.
His truck has 35" tires and will be pulling my 2900# trailer with 8,000# truck, and figure about 1,000# in personal gear and tools.
Would a torque converter and valve body be enough to handle this load?
I know he has been researching tranny parts recently but I wanted to gather some info myself to make sure I don't cause his truck to die and us be stuck somewhere in the mountains of WV.

well he has been running an EZ stacked with HOT juice and has slipped the tranny before. granted we wont be towing with the boxes on (maybe the EZ on 1) but I don't want to get stranded
I didn't know about the mods. He should be running at least a TC and VB with that setup. Depending on the shape of the tranny, if you leave the boxes off you might be ok. How hard and how long has he been running this setup with a stock tranny?
