Well, I went and did it. It's on order. They are out of them right now but have a production run scheduled for next week. Should be shipped on the 23rd and I should have it the first week of March.

I'll let you know how the install goes.............

 

I fab'ed up a 40 gal stainless steel tank that sits beneath my tool box. It is 12"x12" x the width of the bed with a 2" fill with vented cap routed right up to the corner between the bed and my tool box. One baffel in the middle. It has a 3/4" line off the bottom left plumbed into the 3/4" vent on my main tank. Gravity flow...easy install. Fuel gage stays on full for 500-600 miles then reads the rest of the tank. Can't hardley see it. Less than $100 invested.

 

Butchera - which one did you get? Exciting. Are you going to install it yourself or have someone do it - if someone else, what was the estimate on labor?

 

Got the Express-UFS 70 gal. I'm going to do it myself.

The whole setup with shipping was about $860.00. I called a dealer/installer in NC (the closest one to me) and they wanted something like $1150.00 installed.

Talking with "Rocky" at TF, he says that if you are mechanically inclined (know how to use most hand tools and follow instructions) you should have no problem with the install. He also said that if I run into problems to give them a call and they will walk me through it.

I may be going to those same folks in NC to have a X-Monitor installed (not sure if I want to try drilling the manifold myself). My dad has done business with these folks a couple of times and they do good work.

 

I would like to see a pic of this tank. Sounds excellent.

Well, the tank is installed. Looks good.

One lesson learned - get someone to help. It was a royal pain doing it myself.

The install wasn't all that bad but an assistant would of made things a lot easier. It was a straight forward install - read the instructions - read the instructions again - read teh instrustion one more time - position the tank where you want it - measure - measure - measure - measure - make for the holes - drill - route wires and hoses - bolt it in - hook up the hoses - hook up the wires.

The hardest part was finding the correct wire to splice into.

So far so good. Filled up last night. $115.00 to top off everything.

I'll post some pics in a few days (finished last last night).

hey butchera, who'd you talk to in NC? was it the big place beside the Border Station?

I'd love to have something custom fabbed to put in place of the spare, i haul too much stuff 8ft long to lose any bed length.

TFI makes an aft axel 35 gal tank to replace the spare. They also make a 54 gal replacement for the OEM tank.

I kind of shy away from someone fabing up a tank as the TFI tanks are DOT approved for all 50 states.

Butch, it looks like they misplaced the white transferflow sticker/painting on yours...why is it all the way at the bottom and not in the center like the tanks in the pics? Just curious. How are you liking it so far?

 

Any shop that builds DOT tanks (large scale) can make a little bitty tank for us with no problem...mine is in stainless.

 

So far so good, I'll find out in a couple of days if it does like they say (haven't got down to less than half a tank yet).

As for the TFI emblem - it must have slid down during shipment. I haven't had the whatever to unstick it (three or four strips of tape) and put it back in the middle. It's not hurting anything down there and you couldn't see it anyway with the tailgate up.

No harm, no foul.
