trans temp sender

Hey all, I am plumbing my commander temp probe into the trans case plug. How much fluid can I expect? Do I need to drain the tranny first?

None...its a "Dead Zone" in there.

I suggest buying the HOT line kit from Diesel Manor and installing your probe there. Where Quad says to install it is a dead zone for fluid...VERY poor fluid circulation in that area. Basically all you are reading is case temp and not fluid temp.

Even a probe in the pan is better than the pressure port!!!

Definitely, wait on the install, and order the Diesel Manor kit. When you put it in that port on the case there is hardly any fluid flowing there. You are basically taking the temp of the transmission case.

It's a little bit more money, but you will have an accurate measure of the fluid temp before it heads to the cooler. I think I paid about $80 for mine.

Here is the link for the Diesel Manor replacement transmission line, with a port in it for the temp sender. It's an easy job to put it in too.
