I had the same delima when picking my tires... I liked them both, but the tread wear is why I chose the Toyo MT's... Everyone I spoke to gave tread wear on the Nitto Mud Grapplers as "Fair" averaging 30k on highway use... Where the Toyo MT's are "Good" averaging 60k+ on highway use... I have just over 22k on my Toyo's and they hardly so any wear... And as much as these tires cost, I want them to last as long as possible!

VERY HAPPY with my Toyo Open Country MT 35's....

Nittos

My experience with the nitto terra grapplers were not great enough for me to buy another set.

My Nittos are wearing "fair". Certainly not going to get 50k out of them. not even close.

My Nitto's are at 23k and almost done...not too impressed with the wear, but it's been a great tire otherwise

Nitto

My nittos were wearing great, but I have one tire that wearing supper fast. I've only got 12k and I'm not sure I'll get 25k out of them. I also had Toyo AT's and I barely got 28k out of them before they were spent. Not real impressed with Toyo or Nitto tires.

I just put Toyo Open Country M/T on and drove to work today through harsh ice and snow, they worked awesome.

Are the Nitto Tera Grappler and the Toyo Open Country AT not the exact same tire???

They have identical tread patterns...

With my questions out of the way, I just finished up a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers. They were an ok tire. Didn't impress me in any specific way. The traction seemed marginal at best, IMO, not as good as the BFG AT's i ran before them. Also, the Nitto's seem to puncture easily. I had more flats with the Nitto's in the time they were on the truck then I have with all other tires i've ran combined. That could be coincidence... who knows.

My next set of tires i will probably go back to BFG AT's or maybe try something new. No more terra grapplers for me.

My brother has the Terra Grapplers on his Jeep Wrangler... and not had a problem... getting good wear out of them, and having lots of fun in the mud...

I think it's the combination of soft compound tires and heavy full size trucks that make the Terra Grappler not a good match for our big Diesels.... Unless you just like buying new tires every few months...

Nitto advertises an "E" rated 325-70-17 AT now on the back of Petersen's Offroad mag. Their site only lists a "D" rated one. I e-mailed them and received nothing.

They are coming out with new sizes this year. This includes the Dura Grapplers which are advertised but as of yet noone can seem to get them.

I have ran both nittos and toyos, I also own a tire shop in Louisiana, I put my money on the toyos for the sheer fact that they are much quieter than the nitto mud grapplers. I will say that both where good tires on my truck but the toyos seem to be a little better to me as far as ride and wear and noise go. but for pulling in the mud the nittos clean out better than the toyos when the stuff gets thick.
