Towing + MPG

I have a stock 06 and a 32ft Cougar 5th wheel (5th wheel GVWR 10500) .

The question is what changes can I make to improve towing but boost mpg empty for the daily driving. I am not looking for a race truck or having to add extra gauges to monitor pushing the truck to the edge.

Thanks in Advance

I tow a 36ft Raptor with my 06 (auto 3.73). I added a Smarty and run Level 3 and tow with no problems. My MPGs empty have gone from 13.2 to 15.8 (using the computer). I would suggest doing anything unless you get a Trans temp and EGT gauges. I can get the temps up pretty quick if I get on a big climb. It is cheap insurance knowing when you need to back out of it.

I would probably recommend the quad towing box. It will add about 65 hp, keep your egts down, and wont cause you to have to buy a new tranny

do you plan on doing a Trans? that might be the best place to start before you start adding power, or you might be on the side of the road with a broke trans with the added power. if not 50H.P 100 TQ is about the max I would tow with. now if a trans is in the plan TST R49 and Dr. Performance stage III you will have all the tow power you will ever need, but you will need other mods Fuel sys, better intake, a free flowing eux, it goes on and on, but it sure is FUN

Thats the thing, no plans for any Trans work while its still under warranty. So looking for some extra umph without destroying the rest of the parts.

The Quad look like a descent boost and a resonable price. Will I have dealer/warranty issue as a result of this box being added?

No you shouldnt have any problems,, you will have to take it off before you go in, but it is undetectable otherwise.

If a fuel box detected you stand the chance of voiding warranty on certain items. With any fueling mods you really ought to have at least a EGT gauge. You want to the drivetrain to last and no fear of loosing warranty leave truck stock.

You need more power pulling a max weight of 10500?
I have a bumper pull toyhauler with GVWR of 11700. It is usually loaded to about 11K. I have plenty of power and I'm all stock.

Still not a bad idea to know what is going on with the truck, gauges are not just for hot rodders or sled pullers.

I am still basically stock, but still have a full set of gauges. Knowing when your turbo is cool, what boost you are running at certain highway speeds and if you are still getting fuel from the less than stellar stock lift pump is always nice.
I looked at the Quad commander (and other Quad products) don't own any, but they seem to be popular (mild) power adding choices.

I'm surprised that someone hasn't mentioned the Smarty? Very versatile, warranty friendly (undetectable) and some decent reported MPG gains both empty and while towing.

Oh,

And, I pull a little over 10K with absolutely no issues, less than 5K on a new truck, 17 (or so) empty and about 12.75 towing the 5'er.

I was thinking smarty, the reason I didnt say that is because of what he is looking for, no other upgrades etc. That is why I pointed him in the direction of the xzt, it is undetectable too, works very nice withough guages, will actually lower egt's and will give him a nice little add on and extra fuel mileage. The xzt is a pressure box, and pressure boxes actually cool.
It is undetectable because it is after the ecm and its sensors, it just adjusts the signals from the ecm.
