I've found the Pro-Tech boxes to be very well built boxes. I've got a single lid box with dual handles and it has plenty of usable space and looks good.

OH and no you dont have to drill to mount, just go to a hardware store and get some high strength J bolts with lock nuts and washers
Excelent box. If you want to see one installed in a shortbed go to my photo gallery I had one in my "X". When I sold my shortbed I took the tool box and put it in my longbed. It looks good there as well. They are tough boxes, But they have a clear coat so dont dent them because the clear coat will start to flake off

UWS makes a low profile deep box, it doesn't stick up past the bottom of the back glass, that's what i have

Here in the Pacific Northwest, it's Pro-Tech all the way if you are willing to drop upwards of $500. I would suggest the smooth polished aluminum instead of diamond plate. I currently have diamond plate, and it's a pain to polish. These boxes are bullet proof and are often seen on shop trucks and logging rigs. They will last forever.

Jerry R, I see in your signature that you have Kodiak Sidewinder steps on your Dodge. How do you like them?

Personally, I believe in Rawson & Koenig Toolboxes.

http://www.rki-us.com/storage_crossboxes.shtml

Looks like they just changed their website. They used to show a truck w/ tollbox under each wheel. I used to work line crew for electric co - we had these boxes & beds on all of our equipment. I can vouch - they stand up to the heaviest of use. I have two on trucks in Texas, where they are made. I have a Kobalt from Lowes on this truck here in Pa w/ me. I believe it's built by Better-Built. It's allright, but I still like my R&Ks!

Unless you have major amounts of tools you need to carry all the time, I don't see the point in getting a regular toolbox when they have those sweet aux tank/toolbox combos, like RDS.

Sorry to re-activate an old thread but what about the Kobalt boxes sold at LOWE's...????

http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...000&lpage=none

Anyone familiar with this box...?? Here in Houston we have a lot of rain and plan to store some tools and field electronics (GPS, notebook, transceiver)
Do not want all my stuff getting wet on a heavy rain...!!!
