Tire Question: 265/AT2 to 285/ Dura Grappler

I have 265/70/17 Michelin AT2 (E rated) on my truck now and I have over 80,000 miles on them and I am getting a new set. I loved the longevity of the set I have now, but I want something a little bigger and that looks better.

I like the Michelin AT2 285/70/17 however it is only d rated?? Kind of sucks. Also they cost a lot.

In steps the 285/70/17 Dura grappler....

I like these but I want to know how they affect my truck. MPG/Speedometer/Odometer/ and anything else I don't know enough about to ask.

I see some of the Nitto Dura Grapplers have a 45,000 mile warranty and some have 60,000. Why? How do I know I and buying the p metric ones with the higher rating?

I want the 60,000 mile ones.

Thanks for the help guys...

Kris

I think I have it figured out. The dura grappler has a 45,000 mile warranty I believe??

If so, that just ain't good enough.

Will I be ok in a "D" rated Michelin?

I'm running "D" rated BFG TA KO's on my wife's '06 2500 and while I don't tow much with it, they work fine on that truck.

Just make sure you're not gonna get crazy with the weight and you should be fine.

I think you should go with 285/75/17s....instead of 285/70/17s. They are a little taller and help fill out the wheel well better, but without getting wide and hurting mileage with extra rolling friction.

I know on the Nitto Dura Grappler they are "E" rated and have like a 3900 lb load capacity each. I have Nitto Terra Grapplers (more aggressive tread) which are also "E" rated....but same weight capacity as stock tires.

Toyo also makes their tires in a 285/75/17. It's the size our trucks should have come with from the factory, imo.

I went from 265s to 285/70 w/3.73

265s: 70mph @ (just over) 2100rpm; indicated 2-3mph faster than actual speed

285s: 70pmh @ 1950rpm; GPS 71.2mph

I haven't run a full tank yet so no mileage info.

i'm running the terragrappler's in the 285/70 size. i like the looks, profile, tread, etc...i'm gonna take a look at the duragrapplers too. i'm also going to try pricing out the hankook dynapros. they come in this size and carry an "e" rating. i recently saw them on a dodge and they look good, very similar to my terra's, but i believe their reviews have pointed to a pretty good wear mileage.

doh! forgot to post that my speedo has been spot on w/all the radar scanners around my neighborhood w/this size tire. was going to change it w/my smarty, but now i don't think i need to........
