timing on an 04

i hear peole talking about resetting the timing on there diesel i was wondering about if and how that helps i tow horse trailer and tractors often mainly curious if it helps at all thanks

To change the timing on your 04, you need a programmer....You can advance your timing(without a programmer) a few degrees, by either purchasing a Rochtec crank sensor to replace the factory unit, or by doing the "tone ring mod". You can do a search for the tone ring mod, pretty simple really, basically remove the tone ring and "oval" out the alignment pin hole 1/8" to the counterclockwise direction while standing in front of your truck, re-install keeping the alignment pin in the new position.

The increased timing will give you better lowend throttle response, and will help mileage a tad.

As for programmers the Smarty Jr has the best timing for the CR.

ok i kinda regretted buying a predator after learning what all a smarty can do can you do timing with a predator and about how long does the tone ring mod take im going to look it up thanks for the replys

I am not very familiar with the Predator, but am fairly certain it has advanced timing in it's programming software.

The tone ring mod took me about an hour and a half, but with a programmer it is not necessary and could cause too much timing by using both, mine is now back in the original position.
