Question thoughts on bolt ons and tuners

I have an early 04 with 140k and i just bought the k&n intake and the cooler tubz. Next is a programmer. I wanted thoughts on the diablo Sport Predator Programmer U7130. I am looking for something on the inexpensive side and easy to use. I also am considering the hypertech max power. Both are good prices and have good reviews. I am looking for people who have run these tuners and have the experience and facts to comment on quality and performance. I am looking for towing performance and unloaded street performance without going crazy or putting the truck at risk for failures. Auto tranny.
Thanks,
James

Welcome to DTR!!

With 140k on the tranny, you are on borrowed time if you start adding any power.

I can't comment on the products you listed but I am sure others will.
I run the Smarty Jr. and I am very happy with the performance and mileage gains. It also lowers the egt's by a good amount which is a great benefit.

Do some searching here and you will have lots of info to make the best choice for your needs.

X2 - Stock tranny issues are not a matter of if when you add power to a 48RE.

Read the forms on the programmers, there are distinct camps, but a large portion of the members use smarty products for programming. You need gauges though. A bit more spendy to start, but better to do it right the first time. Inexpensive isnt always the most inexpensive in the long run.

Take a bit of time and do some reading. Lots of great people and info in here.

The Diablo did well on 03-04. Hypermax is not the first choice, nor 2nd, 3rd and etc.

Smarty is hands down the best performer on an 04. Bully Dog and Diablo are neck and neck for 2nd.

A different direction is TST. It is not a programmer/downloader but a module and has some built in gauges too. Same with some quadzilla products.

Take some time, do some more research here before you put out the $$$.

You will have to do something about the tranny.

Get it gone through and install an aftermarket billet kit to beef it up. You are already at that mileage where it could start having problems due to wear. There are several aftermarket kits, I am not familiar with them, I have a standard tranny, someone will probably post infor for you about them.
