Engine Life and add ons?

I have been seeing a lot of engine failures on here and on some other sites, what happened to the old reliable cummins? How many of you have lost an engine? Are these engine failures caused by internal engine mods, programming, lack of maintanance or are the days of a cummins that just won't die gone?

there are millions of them on the road, there still the best, but that don't mean they cant fail . ether by human error or a part that fails .I have friend that has caught himself running 1500* numerous times and I am waiting for the oh no ! my engine blew. I replaced an engine that a guy burned up, cussing Cummins ,after I installed the new motor and a working pyro he conceded he burned it up after seeing where the EGTs were @50mph on a grade he used to fly up @over 65 mph foot to the floor . there tough but not indestructible

one more thing I have 800,000 miles on my 12v and I personly know A guy with (last time i talked with him) had 550,000 on a 6.7 and by now it got to be at or over 600-650

It just seems all too easy to kill an engine. I hear people all the time on here breaking rings and burning pistons.

It's starting to be a more common report because it's so much easier and cheaper to make big power with these trucks. You can gain more power with a CR in 15 minutes with a $500 programmer that you could with $3500 worth of injectors, turbo, and fuel system upgrades on the previous generations. Diesel trucks are becoming more popular (notice all the new magazines and such) and as inexperienced people dip their toes in the water, they don't take simple precautions to prevent failure. How many threads have you seen where someone is running an Edge Attitude Hot/Race and wondering if gauges are really necessary? Maybe he doesn't know any better, or maybe he doesn't think it'll happen to him, but eventually he'll break because he didn't bother to add the supporting mods for the performing mods.

I think a lot of these failures seem to come from injector problems, seems that it makes no deference how old the injectors are, they can fail and start over fueling anytime. Makes me want to put a egt probe in for every cylinder. Don't know about you guys but buying a 5k dollar engine is out of my price range. I have no problems doing a rebuild my self, but by the time you buy all the parts you have still spent two or three grand.
