There has gotta be a turbo that....

...will fit the stock elbow. Let me clarify a little bit. I have the turbo mounted jacobs exhaust brake on my truck which essentially replaces the cast iron elbow that comes off the factory turbo. However I cannot find a larger turbo that will fit the turbo mounted exhaust brake. Everyone I have called says they need a full 4" downpipe and the stock elbow/exhaust brake use the 3.5" elbow. Anyone know of a turbo thats compatible and will allow me to keep my exhaust brake?

Any help would be much appreciated....

Dave

Easy, the new B1-04 line of turbos are direct bolt ins and can be used with your jacobs exhaust brake. One dealer of B1 turbos is www.piersdiesel.com but I know there are other dealers also such as Wildcat diesel and ADT.

I talked to Harry at Piers about the B1-04. It should do the trick as Battering Ram says. If you have not called Piers, do it. Harry was very informative and polite.

I have to put a plug in here for Lenny at Dyno-Mite Diesel. Yeah, the other vendors you mentioned are great folks and can hook you up, but Lenny at Dyno-Mite is the reason we have the B1-04. He does the testing for TAD (makers of B1) and is responsible for the B1-04s coming to market. Anyone can sell you a B1-04, but Lenny did the work to bring us this turbo, so of course I'd like to see him reap the benefits as much as possible. He is also the only vendor (that I know of) that has measured ratios and back pressures on all of the available B1s. He can hook you up with exactly what you need.

Gypsyman recently installed a B1-04 from Lenny on his truck with a turbo mounted exhaust brake. Bolts right up.

Not to get argumentative here, but thats a little bit of a slap in the face to those of us who were testing B1s on common rail trucks before Lenny even picked up the B1 lineup. The B1-04 turbo has come from TAD, based on testing data from a variety of vendors, including us, who were the first to use a B1 on the common rail trucks, including back pressure testing and dyno testing.

Understandable. Can't make everyone happy and an apology goes along with that statement. I do believe Lenny has gone the extra mile in respect to the B1 line-up and like to see above-and-beyond effort rewarded as much as possible, even if it upsets some folks. I think it is worth it. Let me explain to try to keep the peace. According to Ken @ TAD, Lenny has worked closer with him than any other vendor ever has in respect to product testing. He has tested them all, not once, but many times in many different configurations. Lenny has picked up such a wealth of knowledge on the B1 line-up, that Ken himself refers folks with technical questions to Lenny. Not that any other vendor is not as knowledgeable, but I can comfortably say (from conversation) that most are not as broad based. I push Lenny for B1s just as I push you for 2nd Gen MAX flow kits. He who puts forth the most effort gets the most reward. I think that is fair, just not popular. Spent money with ya, and will again (3rd Gen MAX flow kit anyone?), but I have never met a person with B1 knowledge like Lenny. The man has been there and that impresses me.

There was a case where two trucks that were pretty close in mods dynoed side by side at Lennys. A pair of Common rail trucks last winter or early this spring. One had the B-1 and one had the Jammer. The B-1 trounced the Jammer in performance on the dyno.

I know Lenny picked up the B-1's just a few months back. A smart move IMO. They are good turbos. Rod has been telling us how good they are for years.

I have to agree with AK RAM. I spent hours on the phone with many vendors and Lenny was the first on that would actually talk drive pressures with me or would admit what the numbers were. This includes most all of the big names in this game. What I got was a lot of buy our's, it's best. Why is it best? Because we sell them. What are the spec's? I don't know but it will fit your truck with some mods.

Not good enough info for me to spend a couple of grand. Needless to say I went with the company that didn't treat me like an uneducated consumer.

jm.02 as long as were pitchin' pennies...

Lenny sounds like a real cool guy and knows his stuff.
For those of you that perhaps forgot or did not know. Kurt Yardley probably had more B-1 version turbos on his truck for TAD then anyone out there. He did not get much credit for it either.
Theres others that have done great work for other vendors and did not get credit where credit is due either.
Piers come to mind and Bill K.

I spoke with Ken at MM and he was pretty proud of the testing and the folks in his circle. I would venture to guess that Lenny was one of them.

I take pride in the fact that I do not sell something to someone that does not need it. You would never guess how many folks I suggested to buy a BHAF or drop in.

We also should recognize a great diesel guy in our friend Nowel Thomas that is in the great diesel race in the sky. He too helped get the B-1 to the level it is.

There I go again straying off topic.

As for the 3rd gen turbos...couldn't tell ya...never had one.

I talked to Rod about two years ago and he said that the KSB1's have way to much drive pressure for the 3rd gens and it needs to be addressed with an external WG to keep the drive pressures in line. That was way before the B1-04 came along, and its pretty easy to overspeed one of those as well if your not to carefull.

I never knew what a B1 was untill I seen them on Rods website a long time ago and he has been telling me how good they are for a long long time and it just seems that people are just now getting the picture.
