Tach going to zero/can't locate sensor.

I put a post on here about a month ago detailing how my 5.9 Dually Dodge 4x4 which was manufactured in 03 of 2000 while driving it the Tach goes to zero and it loses half of its power. Many people replied stating that it was a common problem and that the crank sensor is usually the culprit. Well I don't drive the truck very much usually only to haul wood or move the fifth wheel. Well today the diesel mechanic came over and we blocked up the truck and got under it to take off the starter to remove the sensor (since its directly behind the starter on the block) only to our shock there was no sensor there. A plug with a bolt but no sensor nor wire. Now mind you everything under the hood looks factory no cobbing or anything like this and the plate in which the sensor is suppose to be looks factory, same color as the block. The mechanic looked and cannot find the sensor, he was calling it a speed sensor not a crank sensor. He said after watching a few videos and researching it that some 5.9's have a dual sensor (five wire) underneath the fuel pump most have 3 wires. Well I went out in the garage and looked and there does appear to be a sensor down there. Question, has anyone ever heard of this and is it possible the sensor is located in another place on the motor or is that 5 wire sensor a possibility? Needing help.

98.5-2000 motors have two sensors: one behind the starter (the crank sens) and the other behind the inj pump (cam sens).

The 2001 model year started very early at Jan 2000, so yours is a 2001. There is no sensor behind the starter anymore on 01/02 motors. They run it all off the one up by the inj pump.

FYI Model years run from approx.July-June.
A build date of 03 of 2000 would be a MY 2000 truck.

If you notice there are some MY splits like the 2004 ( built till end of Dec 2003) with the 2004.5 ( built in Jan 04 and later) and the 2007( built till end of Dec 2006) and the 2007.5. ( built in Jan 07 and later)
