super singles

I am looking at buying a dually 3500 i want the wide flat bed but i dont want the duall tires
is there a after market company that produces rims and tires to make super singles

wider than regular rim and tire that can support the same wieght as the dualls

I drive semi truck and they started running super singles about 3 years ago i was hopping that the technolegy had ran over to small trucks

Have you run the super singles in big trucks? I think they hydroplane easily and aren't very good in snow and thats on a heavy big truck I'd hate to see what they would do on a 1 ton.

Ran super singles on a tanker for about 2 years & didn't like them at all. They do hydroplane real bad loaded or empty. When your empty on wet roads & get on the brakes your trailer is going to try to come on around. If you have a flat your down for the count, you can't limp anywhere w/out tearing up the rim.We tryed them on 4 or 5 tanks. Ending up going back to tandems.Hard to buy a new tire on the road not available at most tire shop's. Coca-cola ran them on there fleet 20 years ago & switched back. But they do look big & bad.

the ones I see running them are the trash haulers, they make two trips a day to the landfill with them, if anyone is looking for a set that will not get them stuck it is those boys, they have to make two trips to make money. Y not lift that bad boy so the size on your tanker will fit? " course you would need some big gears to do it and tow

Stockton wheel can fabricate wheels for you.

Chrome wheel has many float type wheels.

You can try Diamond Racing Wheels, i had them make me some 19.5" custom wheels and they did a good job, but they will make anything, for <edit> alot cheaper than stockton, www.diamondracingwheels.com, i think thats the website...

i drive for pepsi. we run super singles on all our trucks. i and all of the other drivers absolutely hate them. the other guys are right, they hydroplane very easily and get stuck in the snow real fast. if you blow one of those your done, if you have duals and blow one you can still make it somewhere and they are easier to get (the duals). cheaper too.

There is not really such thing as super singles for a 1 ton. It would just be running 19.5's, basically. They are MDT wheels. I run Rickson 19.5's. You can get Visions that look nicer and cheaper. Ran 245/70/19.5's with 5000# per tire load rating. Now I just ordered up some Goodyear's:
at 225/70/19.5... These are big truck tires and will last 80-100k miles. Heavy as <edit>. Run a spare and you can change it, if you can lift it. If you are buying a new truck, you are looking at basically spending the price difference between a dually and a single rear wheel on aftermarket wheels/tires.

It took me a while to decide between dually conversion (mine "is" a 2500) and single rear wheel MDT wheels/tires...

edit (sorry about the potty mouth can't even remember what I wrote)

I had a 1T dually 20 yrs ago and ran wide singles on it in the winter - was a little better than the duals. I just got an 03 2wd dually and thought about super singles. The front hubs have spacers that will come off and I could use a 3/4T offset wheel and have the same track width. I would just want to find similar design (appearance) wheels, front and rear. I think I'm going to give up on the idea. I only wanted to do it to narrow the butt and build a narrower bed. The duals are very stable and I don't want to go to all that trouble and find out I don't like the super singles. Craig
