Stupid question about twins/compounds

OK, I'm just trying to learn as much as I can about different setups are concerned. One thing that has me scratching my head is the lower egt's that twins produce. Exactly how do two turbos reduce egt's when the exhaust gas still has to leave the same downpipe, whether it be 4" or 5"?..
Is it because the heat energy of the exhaust is being absorbed by two, instead of one turbo?
I can hit 1600degrees pretty easily on my extreme setting (stock turbo). Don't hold it there for more than a second or two... I'm not really interested in a single larger turbo because I want better driveability. I'm assuming, with a proper compound setup, I woundn't have to worry about hitting 1600 any more.
Thanks in advance.

btw- I'm leaning toward RelentlessDiesel

CFM and Cooler charge air temps. You are putting cooler/denser air into your cylinders which makes a more complete efficient burn, it makes a quicker flash and this results in less cyl/EGT temp's. For heavier fueled trucks that cant move the air they can still be burning in the exhaust manifold making alot of heat as well.

twins

Other than gas engines ,diesels can go with as much air as you can throw .
There,s detonation all the time in a diesel .
offcourse its limited ,at boost /pressure in the cilinders ,that can be too excessive.
but twins can produce large volumes air to cool the intake charge and the egt,s .
