steering problems

i didn't know where to exactly put this thread. i figured here would be as good as anywhere. i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

sometimes when i'm sitting still the steering gets real tight theres no power steering. i'll go to work and pull in the lot and go to back into a space and the steering will all of a sudden tighten up, but once you start moving it will loosen up again. is it binding up cause the weight of the truck is leaning differently or is there a problem in the steering system. i do not have a lift kit. everything is factory.

Is that a 4x4? The steering can bind when locked on 4WD, however even when a 4x4 is in 2wd turning the wheel could cause the axle, differential and front drive shaft to rotate slightly. You might have enough drag in the driveline to cause resistance.

yes its a 4WD. i'll have to check the tire pressure. don't know about the driveline binding in 2WD, i've never seen it happen on trucks i've had before, but it could still happen.

Its normal, or at least semi-normal. It happens to a lot of us. Some say a sector shaft support will help.
