Stainless Exhaust

I have been researching a 4 inch exhaust and thought I had it narrowed down to the Magnaflow Stainless steel system from RPM Outlet. http://www.rpmoutlet.com/dodgec5.htm

I just went to there site and found out that the 03/04 is only
downpipe back. GRRRR!

I am trying to keep the price under $500.00 and am looking for as quiet a stainless system as possible.

Any suggestions on a under $500.00 Turbo back stainless system for an '04 HO?

Very difficult to find SS exhaust for the price you are looking for from the turbo back. As a DTR member we can give you some very good pricing on Banks or Silverline SS exhaust, but they will both be over the buget you indicated.

Look for Mark Craig of DPP Inc on here. You'll be a wee bit over, but **** close! If you don't go out for coffee for a month, you'll be right at 5 bones.

Its 3 1/2 at the turbo and stays there all the to the aft side of the muffler when it goes to 4" for the remainder. Im adding an edit here, I should have said it immedietly knuckles down to 3 1/2", if your talking about the elbow it is 4".

No contest. Get the MBRP system. YOu can likely get it from the factory or Mark Craig. Go with the cool duals. Easy install, sound great.

Try looking at Summit Racing,
They carry the Hog Performance exhaust system under their name for any of the 2003-2004, (not for the 2004.5) Dodge 2500 or 3500 Trucks with the Cummins for $499.00. (These are 100% T-304 Stainless Steel )
They are also 4" from the turbo exhaust elbow back.
Try these part numbers
SUM-673203 CREW CAB, LONG BED
SUM-673201 STANDARD CAB LONG BED
SUM-673200 STANDARD CAB SHORT BED

If you look at the picture (on the link provided) it is apparent that the down pipe is "necked down", smaller than the rest of the pipe, just after the connection (to turbo) point? Can someone explaine why this is? Has anyone purchased this system and actually measured the ID of this "neck" to see what the pipe acutally is at this narrowest point?

If you look at the elbow at the outlet of the turbo, you will see that the turbo connection is a 4" outside diameter, at the end where it connects to the down pipe it reduces down to 3.5" outside diameter. The system you see in the photo connects at 3.5" then immediately increasses to 4" the remainder of the way out to the tip.
Of all the ehhaust systems I have looked at (that say they are 4" from the turbo back) this seems to be typical.
The only way I know of to be a true 4" exhaust from the turbo back is to replace the elbow with a different elbow or an exhaust brake.
The 2004.5 trucks claim to have a 4" exhaust from the turbo back (have not verified for myself). I have been on the phone with Hog Performance and they are in the process of making a new down pipe for the 2004.5. It should be in production in 4-6 weeks. My plan is to put in place a 2004.5 exhaust brake on my 2003 and change the remainder of my exhaust with the Hog exhaust for the 2004.5 trucks. I will keep yall informed of the outcome.

Banks is the only one (and I don't know why) that replaces the cast elbow with a full 4" system from the turbo back.

CADan, is right Banks is the only one replacing the cast elbow with a 4" down pipe and it does make a difference. That is why we also stock just the Banks down pipe so our customers can also make custom exhaust systems such as our aluminized Aeroturbine exhaust with Banks down pipe. The Banks down pipe also helps with sound as well as performance.

I went with the banks DP, a FloPro muffler, and 7 feet of 4 inch pipe. Since the stock 4inch tail pipe was nice, I used it (except for where it's pinched down to go into the muffler).

Couldn't be happer with the system, and I'm only into it about 315 bucks......... Hard to beat really.
