Sound

Do the '03 and newer engines with straight pipe still have the mack truck sound like the older engines do with a straight pipe?

Nope, but they do sound good. My friends got an 05 3500 w/ a 600 straightpiped and it sounds good. The biggest difference is the sound of the engine. The 2nd gens are much much louder because of the engine noise.

If you're considering straight piping, stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And by that, I mean stop considering it and get out the sawsall!!!!!!

You'll be happy you did!!!!

I did it to mine and I love it. I had a buddy drive it so I can hear it. It is not to loud and w/ the silencer ring out you can really hear that turbo. I ordered the 5.5"X24" tip from Rip and it should be in today. I'm hoping it will sound a little deeper.

CODODGE2500MAN is right about the sound. I lost my muffler after a week of having my truck and just recently the kitty ran off as well. The sound is much more raspy compared to a 12 valve or a older 24 valve. I have no drone, but it is loud when WOT. I do like it though.
