Something similar to Hypertech PPIII for my new CTD
Something similar to Hypertech PPIII for my new CTD
I had a 2000 Ford PSD running with a PPIII programmer. The following is HPT's published dyno results for my application. A couple of questions:
1) How does the stock 325/600 engine compare to the "enhanced" PSD?
2) Is there a mild enhancement available (or soon to be available) for the 325/600 engine that uninstalls easily and without a trace (for dealer servicing)? When I say mild, my application is for ease of towing, not drag racing.
Thanks,
Neil

I think the Dodge computer system poses too many problems for the makers of these boxes and that's why you can't find one. I spoke to Hypertech and they are working on a box for our trucks but it is still months away, if not longer..
Edge is coming out with "The Attitude" which will compliment their EZ box and it will give you a couple of guages and allow you to recalibrate for different tires too. It's only supposed to cost $250.00 which is great but it's only good with the EZ box. So if you install the Attitude and remove your EZ to put your truck in the shop, they will know you had the box on your truck. That's not the greatest idea.....
I think a dealer can tell you had the box if he has some kind of high tech computer which many of them don't have. Just don't permanently install any kind of box and always unhook your batteries for a couple of hours to clear the PCM before taking it to the dealer...

You guys kill me, your either a stocker or a bomber, IMO.If your bombing who cares if they see your box? Your not covered anyway for items related to the box.If you want your powertrain warranty run it stock.its not like the new 325/600 is a dog ,it can pull great, there is no need ot bomb anymore ,used to be these pigs were 160hp,and you needed to bomb to get out of the way.I choose to bomb
. I could see me bringing my truck in for engine warranty with twins

Mine died on the side of the road a couple of weeks ago and the first thing I did was unhook the batteries and remove the Edge box while I figured out what was wrong. Turned out that it ran out of fuel with almost 1/4 tank showing on the guage. I guess that I will just have to do that anytime it goes to the shop.

I think I saw dyno numbers for the 04 HO 555 engine and recall them to be very close to the numbers I posted above for the PSD with PPPIII. I couldn't find dyno numbers for the 600. Can I assume that the differences in the specs will be the same at the rear wheels (e.g. 45 more lbft for the 04.5)?

You will be able to easily pull on another Ford PowerStroke with a PPIII. They kinda suck in the first place, and the PowerStroke has good bottom end and good torque, but not alot of either.
The Cummins now has great bottom end, and once it hits peak torque, it holds it, within 20 Ft/Lbs or so,, all the way untill about 2,900RPM. Something a PowerStroke would never do.
Would anybody care to comment what code the dealer will see after you add an EZ to your truck?
*I* Think freshly scratched battery terminals,,, clean MAP sensor, Clean Rail pressure sensor, and a clean boost Elbow would be sure indications that your truck has been tamepered with.
It's going to depend on your dealer, and how much they are looking forward to denying a warrenty that day. (Or how willling they are willing to work with you)

John DiMartino,
I understand that bombing the truck may cause my warranty to become void. However, if I can get Chrysler to foot the bill for a repair that MAY OR MAY NOT be caused by any add-ons, I'm going to do it! I'm tired of people saying the same thing you did and then they're right beside us in line for those same warranty repairs because they don't want to spend thousands on repairs to parts that should have held up on a $35000.00 truck!
I am, however, prepared to be turned down for those repairs if they find out what I have done to the truck, if they can prove that it was the cause of the failure..
