smarty wild with aftermarket turbo on stock turbo

anyone tried this yet? i was just wondering what boost you were seeing with this. i have a SPS 66 on the way. so i reflashed my smarty today i havent put it in the truck yet, but i was curious to see what effect it would have on the stock turbo. my turbo has lived a pretty tough life as it is. im just getting anxious.

I believe member jgiachino tried it and found boost was very hard to control on the stock turbo on the freeway. I'm sure he will chime in on this.

That is what I am running. On setting 5 it will spike at about 42psi and on level 7 it will spike at a little over 45psi. Then falls down to just under 40psi. I had a TST before my Smarty and I hit 45psi daily with it also. With no problem yet. From what I have heard, it is not the high boost #'s that kill stock turbos, it is spooling them too fast or barking them hard. And of course high EGT's.

Running the higher boost lowered my EGT's a lot at WOT. I never have to look at the gauge when on setting 5. It hasnt went over 1400 yet. On level 7 I keep my eye on it though.

Just using level 3 (mild tqm)....it'll go over 40psi on the freeway....quite easily.....but if you have a new turbo on the way, and you've already been hard on your stock one....go for it....

Wether it's controlable or not is debateable....if i wanted to ensure it stayed at or below the high 30's, i could just use less that 1/3 of the skinny pedal on the freeway....my problem is i had a ford on my rear (tailgating) so i punched it (3/4 skinny pedal)....and dumped a cloud in his face... but also hit 45psi real quick.

It also smokes more (pre boost of course)....i think the aftermarket turbo versions fuel a little harder....but that's just speculation on my part....

enjoy the sps!

When you let off the gas with a lot of boost and the turbo barks.

well i had to find out for myself and wow that program is fun. the first setting i loaded was sw 8 and i was not able to get over a quarter throttle before boost rose too high for my likeing. poor little turbo barks really bad between shifts. i had to turn it down to sw3 and i can still see boost close to 50psi without trying. man i cant wait until my sps 66 gets here.

Be careful, it states right on Mad electronics web site that you should not use that program on stock turbos due to the disabled wastegate setting. Effectively you have no wastegate at this piont! No signal from the ECM for it to open.
Have fun while it lasts

No problem till you pop an oil seal on the turbo and feed the engine pure motor oil and it keeps reving to 5000rpm and puts a rod through the block....this has happened to some on here. Good Luck, can't wait till I read about it. ks

So if 40 to 45psi is so hard a turbo. Why is so many peolple runing the Quad boost fooler which allows up to 40psi right? And why hasnt mine blown an oil seal, and blew my motor. I have seen 45psi daily for the past 70,000 miles on my truck. Before the Smarty I had a TST. I understand that maybe upper 40's is where problems occur. But not up too 45psi. I personly cant get my boost over 45psi with level 5 and wild TQ with aftermarket turbo. Could be the differnce be in altitudes????

OK, after reading this I'm going to add a couple numbers to my boost limit on the Attitude. If my engine blows, expect a call from my wife!

Heck...I occasionally bark the turbo so hard at my level of fueling...I would love to see what that would do to a puny OEM shaft!
