Smarty Jr./XZT Stack
Smarty Jr./XZT Stack
For those of you that are running this stack. Do you have a Rail Pressure gauge? If, so. What R/P are you getting @ WFO. I'm looking @ a HTT 62/71/14 SS. What do you think? Is this the stack/turbo for me?
You mean a 62/71/13ss..... Depends on how much you tow....... With my Quad Std. on the 60 hp setting it spool very close to stock. I just don't tow on that setting until I upgrade my tranny. Do you already have the Smarty or the Quad X2 box?
Yeah. I already have the Jr. & the XZT2 on the truck. I have a built trans, & fuel upgrades. I just need a turbo, & need to find out if I'm draining my R/P. It smokes too much for my taste, & I can only imagine what my drive pressure is now, with the stock turbo. I run over mountains @ about 14K.gross.
Very happy with the way my turbo cools. Max EGT's are at 1300. Not to bad. I am assuming you have a tight TC and if that is the case pulling 14k load you will be better off with a 62/65/13ss. What will happen is your EGT's will spike and you will have to back off of the throttle because you will not be able to get on top of the EGT's because of low boost at take off with the auto and the 71 turbine wheel. There will be a very good possiblilty you will not like it because of that. I haven't built my auto yet and when I do I will get a looser TC to help with that problem. I already see am EGT spike with my stock TC at takeoff. EGT's can get up to 1050 deg. before the boost cools it down.
Edited: By the way, lmills told be about this problem when I got the turbo from him. He told me to make sure I tell Dave Goerend that i have a little laggy turbo so he could setup my stall properly to not have problems. If it gets to aggrivating to me I can send the turbo back to HTT and have them change out the turbine, turbine housing, and shaft to a 65 turbine at the tune of $400 bucks...... OUCH!!! I like the turbo so far.....

Goerend did tell me that I would have slow spool with this T/C if I wen't too big. I hauled the same camper with just my XZT for a few years, & my only problem was @ WFO. EGT's hit 1450* But, my camper is a slide in, & I'm getting a jeep to tow, & the total is going to be about 14K inc. the jeep. With the Jr. on 100, & the XZT adding some R/P, I don't think I'll have any trouble spooling down low.
