Smarty JR PoD Mileage Settings
Just took a drive
I just took a drive with the settings sw3, tqm-default, timing 4, pod 60. I pretty much chose the 60 setting because that was a suggested setting on that level for a 2006 stock truck in the instructions. mine is 2007 stock.
1. You definitely feel the reduced power, but its not horrible. Im guessing a peak hp of about 264 on that setting, less than stock
2. since it shifts later, it gets rid of the accidental lugging that the guys with autos (like me)sometime do because the throttle position influences the shift point and it will upshift while going up a hill because of the added power of the smarty jr. basically, even on timing 4, no black smoke for me.
3. Those with teenagers, you can tune down the truck easily when they borrow it, food for thought.....
Next I may try a POD setting like 95, just to cut the top bit off the highest setting if I want to romp on it a little with a wee bit more safety for the drivetrain. That top setting has slipped some TC's, but probably many more have handled it than didnt so just a touch less may help a little...

Ok, 1st mileage report
03 2500 with Kore lift and 35" Toyo MTs, Scotty III air intake, Goerend Valvebody and speedo corrected and checked via GPS.
Smarty JR SW 3 TQ4 TM4 99%
85.4 miles from Belgrade to East Helena. Used 3.9 gallons. 21.9 MPG. This trip is somewhat downhill and wind was calm. Overhead said 21.5 MPG.
Then 99.6 miles from Helena to Bozeman. Used 5.7 gallons. 17.5 MPG. Wind picked up and little uphill. Overhead said 18.5 MPG.
This trip was at around 70-73 MPH the whole trip (1800-1900) RPM. Only a few stops.
I will report back on mileage going to Seattle and back. I will have my snowmobile in the back though, so that may drop mileage. I'm hoping to get at least 17 MPG.
Hopefully diesel will keep going down. Leaving the 13th!

Pwr2tow recommended a SW3, TM4, Stock TQ. setting. I tried this on the last tankful and had best results so far. 590 miles, 29.4gal for 20.1mpg. This at 99% POD. I don't see any advantage to knocking back the power in rural driving...if you have discipline on the go pedal. Mostly 45-55mph.
On this tankful my OHC was showing 20.8. Mileage was hurt last Wednesday when my cold air inlet sucked up a bunch of snow (again). A lot of back smoke and high EGT's and me with no screwdriver to get the air box open until I got to my boat shop 50 miles away. Also, this mileage is on winter #2, with 25% 4WD as usual.
Making a run over to Great Falls tomorrow, 450 miles round trip. All highway driving. I'm going to leave it on 99% and see what it gets in the 67-70mph range. Let's hope going over the divide is not so bad.
Driveability on this setting is super for snow conditions. Very gentle launch, reasonable acceleration at 600deg EGT, and very nice passing power. If you let the boost build to 20psi, then little to no smoke. In one case where I had to get around a couple of log trucks (or eat slush and gravel for 12 miles) and was doing a roll-on in 6th, boost got to 40psi pronto at about 2200rpm. Little bit of smoke there.

Ok guys, just drove from Bozeman, Montana to Bremerton, WA (across the bay from Seattle).
This is with the truck in my sig, 35s with 52 psi in the front 46 psi in the back. I have my snowmobile and ramps in the back which is probably around 600 lbs but sticks up a bit over the roof and is probably a big aerodynamic drag.
Trip was 700 miles and change.
From Bozeman to Missoula which was around 200 miles plus a few miles in town and a warm up before I left, I got 16.5 MPG. For anyone that has driven this, there a few passes and constant up and down. Speed was mostly 75 MPH.
From Missoula to Couer De Alene, ID I got 18.2 MPG. This going over Lookout and 4th of July pass and some up down. Speed was mostly around 75 MPH.
From Couer De Alene to Ellensburg, WA I got 17.8 MPG. Some flat but some rolling hills. Speed was mostly around 70 MPH.
Ellensburg to Bremerton netted me 18.6 MPG. This was with some bumper to bumper traffic around Tacoma and 10-20 MPH for a while, going over snoqualmie pass, a few miles around town Bremerton, and a warmup in the morning. However, speeds were down more in th 60 MPH range with some 70 MPH.
These were all hand calculated mileage #s.
Not overly impressed with mileage, but could be worse. Anyone have some better ideas for mileage?
Turn the POD down to 95 %? Thats more like SW2 probably?
Change the Torque setting to 1 which is stock?
I'm sure I could get better then 20 MPG driving somewere flatter without all these passes!

You guys make me sick...just filled up after 325 miles and I was near 1/4 tank. 33" Toyo M/T's and 50/50 granny driving with no highway speeds over 72mph got me 13.9mpg... That's awful as far as I'm concerned. Granted, I don't have a chip or tuner but I don't see one helping that much either. Maybe 16mpg tops.

Update, Bremerton back to Bozeman
SW 3 99% TQ4 TM4
From Bremerton to Snoqualmie and back, then bremerton to Ellensburg, with a bunch of bumper to bumper (took me an hour to go 10 miles at one point, I hate I-5) got me 16.8 MPG. This was with some 4wd and 4 warm ups.
From Ellensburg (which has cheap diesel by the way, $1.76) to Couer d Alene got me 18.4 MPG. This was going 70 MPH.
From Couer d Alene to Missoula which has two passes, it was rainy and poor visibility and dark, I went mostly 65 MPH with some 70 when it cleared up, I got 19.2 MPG.
From Missoula to Bozeman, mostly 70 MPH, I got 18.6 MPG.
I did try 56 psi in the tires but other then that, no changes.
So, not too bad overall. High of 19.2 MPG and low of 16.8 MPG.
I'm confident I could squeak out 20 MPG if I was empty with the tonneau cover rolled up.

Not wanting to start something here but some are reporting w/POD at 99% that is standard Revo full avalible power thats linear correct. POD anything below 99% is not linear thus the big differance in feel and delivery. So your not really given anyone real POD mpg numbers based on differant percentages. I say this as I run full 99 all the time my driving and style pervide me better milage then when I engage POD feature. Grant it that the tranny likes me better and drive ability is nicer at times and does seem to lug the gears alittle less. So that are the real only bennies I'm seeing at this time.Just food for thought.
From what I understand is that if you have the Revo ability to change TM/TQ and then went too Revo wPOD a reduction from full is as such. Revo you have the ability to change Timing 0-4 and TQ 0-4 setting the old software aka (original or Beta's) you do not. Revo/POD you can do both change TM/TQ plus take away from your total HP avalible, which depends on SW setting. Meaning 99 = 100% of the Revo's software ability's and any thing under 99 is engaging the POD feature which too my understanding is the reduction of HP by 1% of the total availible HP depending on what SW setting your on at that time.
So My understanding of POD is to gain better MPG's by fine tuning YOUR truck to IT'S optimal setting, which depends on driving conditions and driving styles.
Hope that helps ?

SW3, TM4, TQ1, POD=99%...My Great Falls trip netted 19.1mpg (hand-calc) with 26.8g on 513miles round trip. This was mostly at speeds 65-67mph. 25% 4WD over the divide. An easterly head wind hurt going out but evened it up coming back. 65mph into a 20mph head wind doesn't help when you're essentially driving a brick. My truck weights 8240lb empty with me and 3/4tank of fuel. This seems to be somewhat offset by the NV5600. My previous 04.5 2500 weighed 500lb less but could never match these numbers. 17.5mpg in the rural setting, and 15.5mpg on the highway at 65-70mph. Course, that was before Smarty Revo.
