I had some extra cash that was burning a hole in pocket, got caught up in the moment reading about the Smarty and bought a Jr. I don't have gauges (yes, I know I should) am wondering if I should have waited? I baby the truck all the time and don't tow but wanted a little more giddy up for the occasional romp on the throttle. Anything to worry about?

 

I ran my truck with the Smarty Sr. for the first 3 months without issue, but like you I babied it. Since I installed gauges I've run both the Smarty Sr. and then later a Jr. that I traded another member for.

As far as exhaust gas temperatures, if you continue to baby the truck and when towing, put it into the tow/haul mode or lock out overdrive going up into the hills and mountains you should be okay. The only issue I noticed was while running up longer grades towing even a light load (>1000 lbs) in high gear, my truck seems to run fine, but the exhaust temps can really start climbing. I imagine it may even happen while running the stock program, but I've never tested it to find out.

Run in the tow mode it adds about 70hp and shouldn't be a problem.I have run mind for about six mths and seems to do what it says it will do.Just take it easy and have fun

 

I have gauges, and use the Jr. I had it on 3 for a while, just to see what it does. I'v never seen the gauges go out of range. That should only happen if you're putting a lot of strain on the engine(heavy towing, racing), or something breaks. As long as the truck is in good condition, and you're not beating on it, the gauges can wait.
