Question Smarty or JR for 2003 HO...

I'm looking for some input from 2003 305 / 555 owners who have used the Smarty & Smarty JR. I'm currently using a Dr. Performace module on my otherwise stock truck & looking to make a change. The truck will NOT be a Hot Rod... just a driver that tows between 5k & 7k frequently. Thanks for any info.

From what I have been told, the JR would be better suited for your needs. I think I'm going with the JR after I get exhaust. Where in FL are you?

I also have a 305/555 truck.

My Smarty JR will be here today and I will give you my honest opinion of it!

As you said, if you don't hot rod you won't really need the SR or the higher levels. the 100hp setting on the JR would be all you wanted. However, if there is any part of you that thinks you may want to hot rod or see how 130hp could feel, get the SR. Looks like the JR will fit your bill better.

Thanks for the input. I've run a few differant products & 100hp extra is where i like to be. The box i run now performs great but the timing rattle gets a little annoying. I started with an Edge EZ but removed it due to high Fuel pressure concerns, tried an XZT for about 4 miles , Ran the Diablo Predator / puck stack for about 1 year (spoiled me with smoooooth performance) & switched to the Dr. Performance because of how well my wife's truck performs with it. How do the Smarty products compare to the Edge Juice for overall driveability?

Never had the Edge, but from what I've read the JR is more linear, lower egts, and like the edge on lower levels limited smoke.

Get the big smarty. You will not regret it in the long run. I started out just wanting a little more hp and wasted money on the quad. xzillarator. The quad was not bad, the smarty is just 100x better.

You will like the Smarty JR. just fine for what you are describing. If you still have your EZ it will stack nicely with the JR(so will the puck), and as long as you stay below setting 3 on the EZ, you shouldn't worry about too much pressure(03/04s injector problems are less likely than 04.5+ yrs.)

A friend of mine is running the Predator/puck stack on his 05, it is a very nice stack, and I believe powerwise, probably as strong as the Smarty JR, but, your egt's will be quite a bit lower with the JR.

If at anytime in the future, you think you may want more options, then I believe the price difference between the JR & SR is warranted.

for you save $100+ dollars and get a Jr. I've had both and on my 07' I like my Jr. cause It has a stock tranny. Don't misunderstand me, the high setting #3 on jr will smoke your tires all day. Its no slouch.

I've been running the Smarty Junior for a couple months. I like it a lot. I don't have a lot to compare to other then the Juice on my 01 Cummins.

The EGTs are very low and the low end power is very nice.

I started with the 40 hp. Made it 5 miles and uped it to the 70hp tow setting.

I just tried the 100 hp setting today. I put my valvebody in a couple of weeks ago and the tranny feels a lot better now.

The 100hp runs very well. Pretty imprressed. I will have to wait and see how the fuel economy compares.

With the Junior, I have seen the following fuel mileages: This is correcting for speedometer error with 285s(via smarty and GPS). 18.1, 18.5, 18.6, 19.1, 18.7. This is all kind of around town. About 1/2 in town and half at 60-70 MPH. However, last time I checked on a strictly 60 MPH run one way and 70 MPH on the way back(about a 70 mile round trip) I got 24.1 MPG. I haven't been on the highway much to check highway mileage.

The best I could get stock was about 18.5 MPG going around 72 MPH for 150 miles.

I do not have any smoke using the #2 Towing 70 HP setting.

The motor also sounds the same as stock.....

Do you see much smoke from your 03? I have heard that the 03-04's don't smoke that much because of the injectors.
