Smarty Beta 4.4 Dyno Results...Round 2!
Smarty Beta 4.4 Dyno Results...Round 2!
I took a trip up to Moonlight Diesel today to try out their Dynocom dyno. After the very disappointing results I got from Gillett's stingy Mustang (Link) I was a little concerned something might be off with the truck. I wasn't looking for the biggest numbers I could find, just for them to be comparable to others with similar mods. This time I compared the Smarty Beta 4.4 to the standard Smarty Wild, both on #9. The results are as follows...
Smarty Wild Programming = 557.2 HP / 1030.5 TQ
Smarty Beta 4.4 = 555.9 HP / 1135.7 TQ
Their dyno has the capability to do both "inertia" and "load" type testing. We tried both and the "load" numbers were about 40hp less (40% load was used). The numbers above were using the "inertia" method and running in 3rd gear. They are corrected numbers, but the correction factor is only 1.02 or 2%. Uncorrected numbers were about 10hp less. They can also do a run through all gears and get a max HP number that way. Running from a dead stop we saw 569.4hp and 1074.3ft-lbs.

I was surprised to see the standard and Beta programs so close on HP. The real difference, other than the extra 105ft-lbs of torque, was the RPM at which max power was produced. I don't have the RPM figures handy but the standard program made it's max power at around 2900 RPM, while the Beta program made it's peak power MUCH sooner at around 2500 RPM.
The inertia numbers are probably a little high, but I think the load numbers showing around 500-510hp are pretty accurate. I knew there was no way it was only putting down 400hp!

Yeah, stock turbo and sticks. All mods are in my sig...not much else adding power really. The only thing not mentioned in my sig is a boost fooler.
Max boost was 38psi on the inertia tests. Highest I hit at the track was 43psi. Max EGT's were only about 1380.
The only difference is I installed a GDP 2 mic filter and Big Line Kit...that's what it was, the Big Line Kit!!!
I also changed my stock fuel filter at the same time, but the other one looked really clean and only had about 3-4k miles on it.

Nice numbers Justin
much better this time
how much did Moonlight charge you to roll??? and how many rolls did they give you???
I have never heard of a Dynocom dyno???? got any more info on it??
did you notice if you could just take a memory stick in with you and have them recorded the dyno runs on the memory stick???
