Sorry ******. Hey d.wiggs my thermostat has been drilled and tampered with becasuse I was blowing freeze plugs off the motor. So that temp is correct. Is that to low. 140-180

If it was tampered with how can the temp be accurate? It either reads low because it was tampered with or the temp is low, but them it couldn't have been tampered with or elseit would not read correctly so I am very confused as to what happened.

We drilled the thermostat holes to 1/8th of an inch instead of 1/16th. My truck will not get past 130-140 then I take off and drive for awhile and she gets between 150-180. My edge and digital guage work.

I guess I am confused as to what could lower the temperature that much. WHy is your motor not generating any heat ?

My motor is not generating heat because the thermostat is always open. When I blew those two freeze plugs a bunch of people said drill your thermostat, take off the brass plugs, or take it off and you wont blow the plugs so I did. Its not blowing anymore plugs but since the thermostat is open so much its not warming up all the way. My question is is it bad to run the motor at 140-180 degrees.

No, because you run the motor (albeit gently) after a cold start, and there are many times when its very cold out that it is hard to get it above 140° if you are only driving around town. It usually takes a good 6th gear pull from about 55 to 80 to get the engine up to temps.

Nice. Diesel calls those kinds of dogs appetizers!

Yeah diesel is bad Edit but when you see the attack dogs youll understand. These things can take down bears and lions and sasquatches.

Here is some food for thought on the slippage issue:

Peter sells the Con FE which is a single disc and rated for 550hp/1100ft lbs. The FE has LESS of a plate load (pounds) and less area of clutch material then what you have now blackbeast.

Now the 3600LB (which you have) has 2 Clutch discs, with 48 Ceramic pucks and 2 flywheels and 3600 hundred pounds of pressure to clamp it all together which is WAY more pressure than the FE has.

Your looking at a clutch that can basically hold all you can throw at it for a street application and MORE!

The reason Peter offers the higher rated plate loads and feramic materials is for the SledPullers that slip the heck out of the clutch INTENTIONALLY at the line while getting the sled going in ONE gear.
After the intentional slip is over and the clutch is fully engaged it has to then grab after being heated by the friction of slipping.....(this is where the increased clamp load comes into play) The feramic pucks are rated for a higher temp also (and cost more).
Everytime I pull at night you can see a fireworks show coming off of my clutch...(yeah its getting that hot) leaving the line.....DD's have a tough life in my truck.

Basically what Pourin is saying is that with any amount of hp/tq (thus far) these motors can make is not enough to slip the clutch unloaded. The amount of energy from the weight/drag of an unloaded truck is not enough energy to overcome the frictional force a normally functioning DD is producing. You would have a better chance of roasting the tires than slipping the DD. Must be a nice feeling.

BigNasty,
Well said. Thank you!

BB,
Now of course what I am saying applies to a clutch that is in proper working condition.
Either way I would not worry...SBC takes care of their customers.
You are in good hands.

Now go give it HELL!!!

Even with a dually and a LOT of power I doubt a 3600 would slip if it was in proper working order, was clean, and broken in properly with out a load on the truck.

I believe 650hp rating is very conservative on that clutch.

How does the pedal feel to you?

Its a brand new clutch 500 miles on it. So it is in working order. I really like SBC I called them a week ago and the guy was really friendly.
