size of muffler
What's the difference in performance, if any, and it only makes sense the bigger one will be quieter, but does it restrict air flow compared to the smaller one?
thanks

There has been a lot of talk about that on the forums, but I don't really see how there could be any noticeable difference in performance as both mufflers are straight through. Just my .02

I really don't want to go much louder than stock during cruising speeds 70 and up. which one is suggested?
I'm ready to get one, I just want to make sure I get the one to fit my needs.
a. all the performance , air flow, decreased EGT's, improved mileage, ect.
b. not much louder than stock
I'm also not having much luck on finding one locally. My cummins dealer quoted me $101 for a 51 inch nelson. I would like a Donaldson, it looks like I'll have to order it online none of the big rig shops around carry/or order them.
OT-OF-HERE do you have a phone # by chance of the Freightliner dealer you have experience with.
Thanks, sorry for the wordiness.
Jamie.

tn for freightliner
I don't mind at all getting the tn, but surely there is a Freightliner dealer closer than ST. Louis to you. If you still have no luck, let me know but don't forget shipping costs. Also I really recommend the 26" since the whole bottom of your truck isn't muffler that you don't need to control exhaust noise. Mine does fine and it's just a tad over stock noise wise. Also straight in and straight out for easy mounting,..no offsets.

I wouldn't hesitate buying the Nelson if that is all you can find. They are essentially the same design. Good luck.
Thanks AK RAM... I'm on it!!!
Monkeylips or anybody... is the 51inch still louder than stock.
Thanks, I'll probably have time to pick one up Tuesday, If my local Freightliner has one..

for what its worth,i put a 40 nelson on my 96 with a big exhaust 4 inch[no cat]and it sounds great,and at cruise up to 90 or so its barely noticeable,and really smooth..compared to stock,i really believe,at least to my ears,its smoother,sounds much better,and no louder to me!!!!p/n 86127n nelson,about 60 bucks!!!!
I've got the 51" Donaldson and like it. It was kinda strange when I first installed it. The sound when taking off was real airy with no rumble, but after about 500 miles it sounds a lot better. Even a buddy of mine asked if I changed my muffler again. Deep rumble at idle. I have a resonance at 60-63 mph, But no big deal. It is real quiet on the interstate between 70 and 80. At 85 it really comes alive, sounds like a peterbuilt!
